I am very, very torn about getting the Wii. like, really. What I want, right here, right now, is the Wii, a nunchuck, and Zelda. that's $320 (plus tax). it doesn't help my sister's brother-in-law manages a GameStop and can hold one for me as soon as they get their next shipment. And if I wait for (or hope Santa brings) the nunchuck and Zelda, it's only $250 (plus tax) for the console itself. And, and, and... I'm a child on the '80s. I grew up on Mario, Zelda, and Metroid. I'm a Nintendo fanboy.
I want.
(And despite this morning's panic on food, I'll remind everyone that I'm within the top 6% richest people in the world.)
Update: No Link to the Past!? *rages*
Update: Of course, it *is* backwards compatible. I never had a Dolphin. And wasn't Zelda64 ported to GameCube?

Date: 2006-12-06 11:44 pm (UTC)the more i look at the wii, the more i think it's kind of cool. cool enough to own if i could come up with enough games to play on it. although i think my vague interest in this comes from the fact the ps3 is way too expensive and unjustifiable for me. but i always feel like sony has more games to offer. maybe.
(i must remind you that i speak as a relative gaming novice.)

There's SO much I could go into about gaming, and I haven't really been a console gamer for years. Nintendo dropped the ball in a big way around the N64. I myself own a PC and a PS2 and that's it. But wow...!
I'll try to keep this short and sweet. The Wii is 1/2 to 1/3 the price of it's competitors. It is not a Next-Generation gaming machine in that it's basically the GameCube on steroids: read my lips, no new hardware. This means, though, that it's the first (non-Gameboy) Nintendo system to be backwards compatible (ignore for the moment that PS3 is both net-gen and allegedly backwards-compatible; it's had issues with that touted compatibility, and it costs $700). The Wii has one thing none of the other systems does: a Revolution-ary new way of playing video games. There's nothing like the experience of the Wiimote.
As for games? Not only is Nintendo putting out three times as many titles before the end of the year as either Sony or Microsoft, but (as noted) all those cool GameCube games work on the Wii (it apparently has front-side ports for GameCube controllers) AND Nintendo's putting up an online store where you can buy vintage games like the original Zelda, not to mention their upcoming game Wii Play, which apparently has other vintage games redone for the Wiimote, including Duck Hunt.

I loves it, precious, yes I do. I can't wait for Silent Hill 5.

Date: 2006-12-07 05:00 pm (UTC)my friend's husband just bought both the ps3 and the wii. when i asked her why both she told me it was because the wii was more family friendly. that's impression i get from the wii, which is why it interests me.
i had no idea that nintendo was putting out so many games. alrighty then.

Date: 2006-12-07 04:05 am (UTC)Hey, and I found pictures from that con that I thought I'd lost! Just you in a polo shirt laying on one of the beds, but damn, Andrew, were you ever fine. :D
I pinned one to my bulletin board so I can look at it whenever I want. :3

Date: 2006-12-07 06:57 am (UTC)You should come over and play it. I actually have someone doing that right now, first time he's ever been in my house and it's to play my video games. And yeah, zelda is super-fun, ocarina of time style.
I hope you do realize that you have to see me at least once more before going to cali again. Really, it isn't an option, I don't care if I have to drive to your parents house and wait a week until you decide to visit them, I will be seeing you.

Date: 2006-12-09 01:49 am (UTC)This is all true. I get back to Maryland probably on the 18th or 19th. The 24th-26th is Family time, and I'm probably leaving on the 28th. When are you free? I'll probably have a (very) little bit of shopping left to do, if you wanted to watch the rabid shopperius christmasticum in it's native habitat. And then we can go back and play with your Wii, if you know what I mean.
You have my number; call me and let me know what works.
