I can't fucking stand abuse of authority.
(vector: [livejournal.com profile] postvixen, [livejournal.com profile] prester_scott)

Very few things piss me off as much as abusie of power or authority. I have a high sense of respect for authority, ingrained in me from childhood, and I want to respect al those who serve our country, military, police, officials, what have you. But when I read shit like this (this isn't the worst, just the most recent), it really gets to me.

Did you know that in DC there's a law which the Councilors passed which simply exempts them from parking violations? They could park in the fucking middle of an intersection and not get ticketed for it. There's not even any fucking pretense to it, it's there because they have the power to put it there.

"You don't have to cooperate." "We can do this one of two ways. Show me your ID right now." What kind of shit is that? I want to fucking break something I'm so angry. And like I said, this isn't the first, nor the worst, of what I've heard.

*smolders*

Heh, some things make me angry.
I'm not going to edit it, as I've done on at least one occasion before.
I'll leave it as a testament to exactly how I feel about such abuse.

Being a photographer, I too have heard horror stories much worse than this. Like a man (professional photographer) who was taking night shots of a power plant, with written permission on him while he was shooting. The story is long and involved, involves officers of the law, accusations of terrorism, physical damage to the photographer, and the removal from his possession of his cameras, (including taking the photographer to his house, and removing more equipment that was there. Fortunatly for the photographer they did not know or ask about his studio) along with a slip of paper to allow him his equipment back during regular business hours the next day. Needless to say, not ALL of his equipment was returned to him, and not all that was returned was returned in working order. Evidentally, a digital camera was destroyed in an effort to find and remove the film. Needless to say, I am careful where I point my camera these days, with or without permission.

Life imitates art, but art is often stunted by the living.
