So, I got kinda crestfallen earlier today.

Background A: I'm friends with this guy Jason ([livejournal.com profile] quix), who was one of the first RPers around DC who I met, and a really cool guy. I was in a Changeling game this summer with him, his brother, and a few other people.

Background B: I recently got back onto OKCupid, though I'm not exactly sure why. Maybe it was the quizzes, maybe it was the need to meet new people. I personally think it was crack in the water, but the tests have proved inconclusive. The point is I found Jason on there and added him as a RealFriend (as opposed to all those fake ones you build up over time, I guess).

Anyways, I was checking OKCupid and it said I had a Comment to accept -- or decline, as it seems they don't want random people running around and saying nasty things about people they don't know. So there's a link to the girl's profile (cause it was a girl who commented), and a link to the actual comment. I check out her profile, cause I don't know who could possibly be leaving comments about me. And as I'm checking out her pictures, two things occur to me: Firstly, she's really pretty and, secondly, she looks vaguely familiar. And that's when I notice that OKCupid's telling me, near the top, that she's part of my "friend network" -- specifically, she's friends with Chris, who's Jason's brother. And THAT's when I recognize who she is, and I laugh -- cause the last time I met her, the first thing I thought was that she was pretty. And so I'm getting kinda excited t'get back in touch with her, and I go to see what Comment she left, and... )

And, speaking of OKCupid, I made a friend. Sorry I couldn't chat earlier t'night, Emily, things get hectic around here sometimes.

Holy Wow!

So, I was looking at OKCupid, just because. Y'know, it's a thing to do. And I opened my "match page", where they show you a list of people who they think you'd get along with. And it's the same list of people, with percentages like 86, 88, 84. And it occurred to me that Emily's never been on my list (sorry, Emily, it's the truth) and I've never noticed our rating, but she said we had a lot in common. So I went over to her profile to check our rating...

Ninety percent! Several points higher than anyone I've ever seen on my match page! Why in the WORLD would she not show up on my list?

Josh pointed out that, unless it's a government website, Google never finds the most relevant information, either.
I might think that it's because it's not looking far enough away, but Baltimore's within 100miles of DC, isn't it?
