So, I got kinda crestfallen earlier today.

Background A: I'm friends with this guy Jason ([livejournal.com profile] quix), who was one of the first RPers around DC who I met, and a really cool guy. I was in a Changeling game this summer with him, his brother, and a few other people.

Background B: I recently got back onto OKCupid, though I'm not exactly sure why. Maybe it was the quizzes, maybe it was the need to meet new people. I personally think it was crack in the water, but the tests have proved inconclusive. The point is I found Jason on there and added him as a RealFriend (as opposed to all those fake ones you build up over time, I guess).

Anyways, I was checking OKCupid and it said I had a Comment to accept -- or decline, as it seems they don't want random people running around and saying nasty things about people they don't know. So there's a link to the girl's profile (cause it was a girl who commented), and a link to the actual comment. I check out her profile, cause I don't know who could possibly be leaving comments about me. And as I'm checking out her pictures, two things occur to me: Firstly, she's really pretty and, secondly, she looks vaguely familiar. And that's when I notice that OKCupid's telling me, near the top, that she's part of my "friend network" -- specifically, she's friends with Chris, who's Jason's brother. And THAT's when I recognize who she is, and I laugh -- cause the last time I met her, the first thing I thought was that she was pretty. And so I'm getting kinda excited t'get back in touch with her, and I go to see what Comment she left, and...

"Warning: This Boy is a Troll."

So... yeah, I was a little bit upset. Cause here's a girl who I think is kinda cool, and she calls me a Troll. The only thing I could think she meant was that I was some kind of "forum troll" or other "internet troll," which is the sort of person who gets in on a message board or community just to make trouble. Either way, I was at a loss for any sort of way that being called a troll is a good thing, especially as a warning. So I sent her a message: "A *troll*? Now, how am I supposed to take that? *is hurt*" And I was. I was miserable for the whole rest of the day.

Well, OK, for a few hours until I got her reply: in the dedicated, loyal sense. And I had to kind of laugh at myself -- see, in our Changeling game, I *was* a troll. That is, my character was a Troll, sort of the honorable warriors among fae, bound by duty and such. So, yeah, she actually found the *only* way the being called a Troll is a good thing...

And, speaking of OKCupid, I made a friend. Sorry I couldn't chat earlier t'night, Emily, things get hectic around here sometimes.

It's okay, if you were always free to talk, I'd think you didn't have a life. ;)

By the way, I think you should definitely keep the comment.
