[Saving this from Nif's old LiveJournal, so I don't ever lose it.]
"My hands shake," she said
"Please don't watch."
When I am Queen.
The fields were flattened
Shredded gold, pardoned footholds
I used to walk there, way back when.
I will insist.
Have you walked where I've been?
I left a little bit in every dent mark
I thought maybe you'd remember...
You've never seen me walk.
With silvered scars.
I want to watch you walk
But I can't look back-
You can't turn back
I won't look back
Not ever.
Upon my wrists.
She shoved her hands into her pockets
Ugly bulges on her hips
"Its a nervous disorder, I think."
When I am Queen.
We used to set up pictures in the park
With gold filters that smeared the light
...Will you stay with me?
I really am stupid.
I will confess.
Wait for me.
I could bring myself to wait for you
And I know it.
Which is why I've got to keep going
Folded fields beneath my feet
It gives me something to do.
With rusty spots.
Her smile was apologetic
And she shrugged
Moving away to begin her walk
Sweaty fists buried under cloth.
Upon my dress.
There are no promises to keep
You always said they were too dangerous
I wish you had let me keep something
Besides these golden shards in my feet.
She bought gloves today.
No one watched her put them on.
