"Put a random television channel on and turn the sound down. Then put on a random CD. Sit and watch the picture as you listen to the sound. Notice how they start connecting? Why? Because the human brain is hard wired to connect things. That's what it does. The easier the connection, though, the happier the brain is, which gets translated as more aesthetic."

Hmmm. I wonder if that's what is so drawing about making music videos, you know? That I can go, connect images with music, and see the connection there and thus be very pleased with myself.

I also wonder if that's at the root of why so many professional music videos (for VH1 and MTV) never live up. Their pictures are never even close to what I see in my head to the lyrics and no matter what I try, some vids just never match up.

Hey! I'm posting a comment in Andrew's journal. It's been a really long time since I did this. Yaaay me. ^__^;;;;;;;

Why, Hello There - Who're You?

^^ Hey there, Mel. Nice to see you're still in the neighborhood. ^^

I think you're onto something, there - I'm an avid lover of vids (you make them? Why was I not informed?) and I must say that the best of them line up, make sense, and fit. Personally, I have most experience with AMVs (Anime Music Videos - "Evangeleon - This Isn't What We Meant", "Rurouni Kenshin - Trust", "Senshi On Springer", "Happy Boys And Happy Girls") but there are a few (and I do say a few) professional videos that I think fit. Not that I can, uhm, you know, NAME any..right now...that is.... ^^;;;

I'm nobody - are you nobody too?

Eh, my vids aren't a big deal. I'm still trying to perfect the way clips fade into each other (that's my rough spot) but the few I've done have had great matching in terms of lyrics with words. Goodbye To You (http://www.dreamingaloud.org/magic/goodbye.zip) is the one I take the most pride in. It's an X-Files video, but ... hey. I think I did pretty good for a overall "goodbye to my favourite show" sort of idea.

ANYway... where do you find Anime music vids? I haven't come across many music vids in general, let alone anime ones (it takes me hours to find x-files ones... arg). On a slightly random note - "This Isn't What We Meant" is an AWESOME song. I just heard it about a week or two ago (thanks to another X-Files music vid, actually!) ...

Tra la la. I'll stop rambling now. ^___^;;;;;;;

I'll have to check out your videos - were I not at work, I'd DL it right now. ^^;;
I've never made a vid, I think it's cool that you can. ^^;; I'd prolly mess it up, myself, what with all those weird programs and the clipping and ripping and such - I'd prolly be better off writing some code to do it for me.
*considers*

As for where I get mine? One of two places - Louis or Leslie. ^^;; I'm not sure where they get theres, but Louis once showed me a place where you could search for AMVs - this huge online database, and download them for free. I didn't have the time to do it myself, then, so I ended up losing the address - but I plan on tracking it down again, and I'll let you know when I find it.

And yes, "This Isn't What We Meant" is an AWSOME song - by an AWSOME band. Savatage is one of those classical rock bands - I guess from the 70s. My brother once (or twice, even) described them as "A cross between Queen and Metalica." They're really good - so good, I'm planning on actually buying a CD (even if I DO have all their songs on my computer...) Once in a while I'll stumble on a dud ("Midas Knight", for example, I think could use help), but mostly their music's great. A little dark, but I'd recomend them to anyone. ^^
