I hate how, every time I think I'm two steps from being done, my advisors say, "oh, you need to do X." Today, after submitting my full thesis draft (well, minus a couple appendices), my advisor says, "oh, you need to submit your code for content management; see Jean for how to do this."

My acknowledgments right now thank my advisors for their "guidance and input." I have half a mind to simply put the word "clear" in front of that phrase; I don't know that anyone would catch the subtle tone of sarcasm.

Hey, my dissertation needed to be turned in on heavyweight (expensive!) archival paper.

Then, after I'd done that, they told me: oh, you need to print this again, the page numbers at the bottom are too small, they're 7pt font and they need to be 8pt font.

The rest of the conversation went like this:

ME: "Uh, is it really that important? I mean, it cost me almost $40 to get this much paper, and I am never going to be successful."
THEM: "Yes, it is important. Otherwise the microfilm reader won't be able to read them."
ME: "Does anyone really use microfilm anymore?"
THEM: "Well, a PDF is created from the microfilm."
ME: "Oh, uh.. you know, I *have* this in PDF."
THEM: "We're not set up to receive dissertations in PDF."

-laughs- I've generally decided that I'm not going to pursue my doctorate, ever. This sort of thing is part of why. $40 for paper? Ouch.

And as many times as it's pointed out to me that this sort of thing is pretty standard, that doesn't make it any less dumb.
