Some people mourn for their dogs...

My computer, Annie, has died. She was complaining to me a while about minor hardware failures, but I kept putting it off. Yesterday, in the middle of some intense processing, there was a loud pop, the world hung frozen for a second, and then she went blank. Hours later, she won't even attempt to power up.
I'm hoping for the best, that my data is still sound and that it was 'just' her processor and/or motherboard that failed. I've ordered new parts with which to construct her descendant, and expedited the shipping. Hopefully things will be right with the world before Monday morning. Until they are, I'm working on a half-baked, futzy laptop who doesn't like to be on very long and shuts of for "low battery" emergencies at 70% power. He's fine at 71% and 69%, but 70% is verboten.
I'll try to reply to your email as best I can, since I still have things to address from Message One, but there may be a lapse.
There will be a memorial service for Annie yesterday at 11:15pm; attendance is appreciated.
