Oh.... So, let's see. Long weekend. Not much sleep. Lots of fun.
Thursday night I went over to Leslie's to hang out. Or, rather, first I met her and her brother, Sean, at a fancy Italian restaurant for dinner. Then we went back to her place and goofed off a bit online before going to see "The Prestige." It was a very cool movie, very dark, very interesting, with just the slightest hint of... Well, I liked it. A lot.
Friday was my day off. I used the time to straighten up my apartment, catch up on some little projects, and just relax. My friend Amanda was coming up to visit for the weekend, and she showed up sometime between 6 and 7. We went out to dinner at Fudruckers (which is still very good in my book), and then (after she opened and showed off her belly-dancer costume for Halloween) we hopped into my car and drove up to my parents' house -- she and I were going with my dad and grandpa to see the Navy/Notre Dame game on Saturday.
The history between Amanda and I is... a bit complicated, really. Probably more-complicated from my end than hers, but... Suffice it to say that I really admire her, but I don't think we'd work together as a couple, which is a bit disappointing sometimes. At that, though, we drove some three or four hours without having and dead airtime; we talked about everything and anything the whole way up, and it was really nice. We got to my parents' house around 11 and promptly went to sleep.
The game was alright. We tailgated with some of dad's friends before and after the game. The first half had a lot of promise for a good, close game, but Navy was down at the Half and never came back from it. Their Quarterback was a sight better than he'd been against Rutgers, though, which is encouraging. Having tailgated well, I slept the whole way back home, and Amanda and I stayed around until after dinner; she wanted to get back to Virginia so she could go to mass at her old parish.
And, actually, that she wanted to go to mass was a bit of a surprise. It's one of the reasons she and I wouldn't really work as a couple, that is, she's really not religious much at all. (We have 'more substantial' disagreements on ideals and values that go beyond religion, but as I'm a rather religious person myself this bit isn't a non-issue.) But we had more good conversation all the way back to my apartment and pretty much got right in bed.
We woke up earlier than we'd intended, and went to an earlier mass, then we swung by Starbucks and Krispy Kreme for her and Wendy's for me and went to Mount Trashmore (a local park that's kind of a childhood landmark for both she and I) and had a bit of a picnic. It was really beautiful out, with a clear blue sky and wonderfully strong wind. We got back to my place around 2 or so, then she packed up and headed out. It was really good to see her. I wish we were more compatible, but even at that it's really good just to have a good friend I can be comfortable with.
And now I'm 'looking forward' to work in the morning. It's kind of depressing, but looking back on how I've spent my weekend makes me feel really good; really alive. So that's nice.
