The idea that Failure is always and ever a harmful experience, and should be avoided and buffered against whenever possible. That Failure is the greatest blow against a child's developing identity, worse, even, than moral corruption.
And then we're surprised when a person is caught cheating--at Scrabble, on their taxes, et cetera, et cetera.
