So I went out to dinner and a movie with Sarah last night. I'll try and get a proper post on that later today, but for right now the point is that we went to a 10pm showing of Pirates 2 and I didn't get to bed until 1:30 or 2:00. I'm tired. Coffee has seemed to help a little bit, but...

And just to keep score, on a scale of 1 to 10 with 10 being the best movie I've ever seen, Pirates gets a 4. It was an alright movie, but I think the story was a little thin and it relied too much on in-jokes and references to the first movie for its humor. Some of that is good stuff, sure, but when you have no fewer than 3 references to "why is the rum gone," a good line in the first movie but weak to keep repeating. All in all, I think it sets the stage for an interesting third movie, but that's about it. Which, I guess, makes it a wonderful example of "Middle Trilogy Syndrome."

I thought the movie was a little weak myself. The beginning wasn't that bad, but by the end it started being pretty hard to sit through, especially with that ridiculous sword fight. Reminded me of the second matrix movie, with both sets they made a sequel when there didn't need to be one because the first one brought in a lot of money and they wanted to cash in on that. The only problem was they didn't have the originality of the first one, so they needed drawn out action scenes to act as a filler.

It annoyed me more than a little how much they set it up for a third movie. No resolution, just a promise of "stay tuned to see how he'll get out of this one!" It just kind of seems somewhat like Kill Bill to me, take one movie and stretch it out into two. Not because the two movies would be that great, but because they can get twice as much money for it. Kill Bill pulled it off and is better because of it, Pirates won’t be. Harry Potter can make each movie have a conclusion and still get us to go back to see the next one, it shouldn't be that hard.

Just as a note, Kill Bill wasn't meant to be two movies, last I heard. Tarantino just made it too long...

I meant to change that sentence, but I forgot. He figured it would be better to break a movie into two parts than to shorten it into one, and when you think about it, cutting that much from the movies would have ruined them. Kill Bill pulled off making the plotline for one movie into two movies, but I doubt pirates will be able to do that.

I personally thought the movie was good. I took the liberty of seeing it twice so I think I have a good feel for the movie. The begining was slow, and it took a while to get going. I personally thought that the rum references where funny because well, he's a pirate? And the line that went something like "I take advantage of good situations; I wave to them as they pass by", I thought was funny.

It was werid, once you thought the movie was going to end, it doesn't! And then when you don't want it to end, it end! That was a little dissappointing, but if you think about it they set it up for the 3rd movie perfectly.

Well, the first time I saw it my friend wanted to know if they had something after the credits like in X3. They did! Did you see it? It was funny/cute/sad.
