jackofallgeeks: (Contemplative)

Got up t'day, refreshed, to a bightly-lit room, simply flooded with sunlight. My imediate response was dispaire - it was that it was early afternoon - I'd missed all my classes, and if I wasn't quick, I'd miss work to. This isn't a good thing when I don't INTEND to do it.

Then, my roomie informed me it was only 7:30 - I had a full HOUR longer that I could sleep. With a relieved grunt, I rolled over and pulled the covers over my head.

An hour and a half later I was headed up to my 9:10 English class. That was good, and we had an interesting conversation on why there's poverty, what could be done about it, and why redistribution of the wealth would be bad. Physics was really cool because once again we were discussing relativity, and how traveling 4.5 lightyears at 90% the speed of light would take about two years... Calculus we wer talking about series and sequences, didn't get our tests back, but got out 10min early.

Work was OK. Got away with doing alot of nothing while simply entering data into a speadsheet as Bonnie gave it to me. Then Charles and I went to check Dancing Dots in the music school, sand it's still not working. I'll have t'let Aaron know.

Then, I came home and decided to work on those two decks I keep talking about. I managed to finish my Black-Splashed-Green Zombie deck. I'll save all but those interested from my explaination.

"As you can see, a lot of thought goes into creating color hosers. So the next time one is beating you down, take a moment to admire the aesthetics and subtlety of the card smashing your head in."
-MagicTheGathering.com

"I confer with Death itself. What could you possibly do to injure me?"
-Lord Dralnu

They say the Zombie Master controlled these foul creatures even before his own death, but now that he is one of them, nothing can make them betray him.

"The living can not understand the benefits of death."
-Chaeska, Keeper of Tresserhorn

"The mere sight of our undead allies sickens me. What unholy bargain have you struck?"
-Grizzlegom, to Agnate

"I have seen the faces of my dead friends among that grim band, and I can bear it no more."
-Lucilde Fiksdotter, Leader of the Order of the White Shield

It doesn't need to feed, but still it hungers.

Dread of Night

1x Lord of the Undead 1
2x Zombie Master 1
1x Conspiracy 3
2x Feast or Famine 3
4x Maggot Carrier
4x Scather Zombies 2
3x Zombie Trailblazer
4x Lim-Dûl's Cohort 1
1x Carnophage

1x Bad Moon 1
2x Tainted Well 2
2x Evil Presence
1x Blanket of Night 1
4x Strength of Night 2
4x Steal Strength 1
4x Consume Strength 1

11xSwamp
1x Bog Wreckage
1x Tainted Wood
1x Llanowar Wastes
2x Slippery Karst
2x Forest

To begin, I'd like to say that, the first thing I would do, is replace one Swamp with another Bog Wreckage, replace the Llanowar Wastes (a painland) with another Tainted Wood, and maybe drop the two Forests for either two more Slippery Karsts (cyclers) or two final Tainted Woods. This deck isn't about Green, it's about Black.

Second, though they have always served me well, I think I would drop the two Zombie Masters for the newwer Lord of the Undead, and kill the Conspiracy for the 4th Lord. The conspiracy is really in there just to protect my three lords (the Masters are Summon Lord), and it would be more or less pointless (though a nice addition) otherwise.

This deck is really very straight-forward. You get out your Zombies, make a couple Swamps on your opponent's side, pump up your creatures, and strike the killing blow. All accounted for, you can get some 18 Zombies, 21 if you have your three Lords out with the Conspiracy. One kickered Strength of Night would give all said Zombies +3/+3 until end of turn, more than enough to handle your opponent, especially when they're all unblockable (the on advantage to not phasing the Masters out all together is that they provide Zombies with Swampwalk). Your Lord is key in that, not only does he pump your Zombies, but he can bring them back from the dead, so to speak.

There are only five cards in here that create Swamps More would be ideal, but it drops the number of Zombies you can have, unless you drop some removal cards. The two Evil Presences and the Tainted Wells create single Swamps, preferably on your opponents side. The Blanket of Night makes ALL lands count as Swamps, and while this means your opponent can get Black mana (big whoop) he'll have a hard time stopping your Zombies from creaping in. As an added bonus to these five, the Trailblazers also have a knack for creating swamps, with a little help from their undead buddies.

There are a number of removal cards in here, most of which are designed with the added bonus of pumping up your creatures. Both Steal Strength and Consume Strength such down one of your opponent's creatures to give one of your Zombie's a little more punch-power, if only for a single turn. If used wisely, these can either rip through your opponent or turn the tide of battle. Your Feast or Famines also give you the option of a rather expensive Terror, but this lowwers your potential for maximum Zombie-power.

Finally, the meat of the deck, the Zombies. Admittedly, these aren't the cream of the crop - Maggot Carriers, Scathe Zombies, one Carnophage, and the four Cohort. Given time, rest, and maybe a few more resources, I could probably refine this a bit more. More useful Zombies tend to be more expensive, of course, and the ability to drop the Carriers or Carnophage on turn one is an advantage. The Scathe could most likely be replaced by something, as well as the Cohorts, maybe. Though they have a nice way of dealing with Regenerators, Consuming such a creature would serve the same purpose.

It may also be an idea, maybe, to drop a few of the leach-spells for some sure-fire removal, like Dark Bannishing, but in general I'm confident that this deck should be viable, as long as they don't sick a Stern Judge on you - but he ruins any Black deck's fun. Heh heh, play a Corrupt on him. How's THAT for poetic justice? (Hey, I think I made a funny...)
