So, there are a lot of movies I never get around to seeing. This includes classics like "The Godfather Trilogy," as well as newer releases like "Cinderella Man" and "The Italian Job." Part of this is because I don't like watching movies alone, but I'm getting better about that; so long as the movie is engaging enough, some popcorn or pizza will do me fine. The other part is that it's always been inconvenient for me to go out and rent movies and take them back.

So, I'm about three steps away from signing up for NetFlix. And while I'll listen if any of you have anything horrid to say about them, I've pretty much decided to go ahead with it. What I *do* need, though, are suggestions for movies I should watch. I don't even know what's out there, half the time. So, if you'd kindly leave a comment (or three) suggesting a movie (or twelve) that you think I'd like or have to watch anyways, it would be greatly appreciated.

Does NetFlix rent out TV series?

Oh yes :) That's how the hubby and I first saw Firefly...we also watched Farscape and Six Feet Under through NetFlix, and are now watching The Kids in the Hall.

I *LOVE* Netflix. Yes, sometimes they throttle heavy users. However, it is easy to time things so that you always have a movie to watch when you have the time to watch it. We have the three out plan, and it works well. Over the summer, we may go to 4 out, or even more, but for most of the year, 3 is great.

As for recommending specific movies .... hmmm ... don't know about that. We just watched the first of the three Godfather's ... have the second one here to watch next time. I'll think on that, and if I come up with something for you, I'll let you know.

Oh, with Netflix, you can have a friends list similar to LJ ... you can see what your friends are watching, and read their reviews if they write them. I never write reviews, but I do try to always rate them anyway. Jeff and the girls don't, however. (Jeff and the girls have their own "que" and get to pick their own movies.)

Lastly, there is indeed an LJ netflix comm. It is called [livejournal.com profile] netflix oddly enough.

oh hell yes

Okay, so there are some classics you simply must see if you haven't already:

The Usual Suspects
Catch Me If You Can
Fight Club
Ocean's Eleven
Charade
Amadeus
Moulin Rouge!
The Italian Job
Casablanca
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (but you might want to watch this one with someone, it can get a little depressing if you're not in the right mood...and I think we may have watched this together.)

That's all I got right now...but we'll continue this discussion at a later date. :-)

mooooovies!

Garden State!
Eternal Sunshine...someone already said that
I love Can't Hardly Wait and A Life Less Ordinary, as well.
Velvet Goldmine, the Boondock Saints and Bend it Like Beckham round out my comfort shelf.
