I hate DC.

No, I can't say I "hate" DC...

I Abhore DC.
I Despise DC.
I Lothe DC.
I Detest DC.

There, I think that comes a little closer to my true feelings for this place. If any of you have ever driven in DC you'll understand what I mean. The laws of physics do not hold in DC - if you try going in a straight line, you end up going around in circles, if you head TOWARDS something, you get farther away. you'd have to be a fool or a mad mad to get around the place!

Last night, though, was amazing. I am impaired, though, by the knowledge that you're all reading this. That is, I don't want to say what I want to say, for fear that you'll read it. But I know I'll prolly end up telling you all, anyways, so I'll try and get it out...

Last night, Murphy's Law was in full force, at least where driving went. Heading to pick up Claire, I got stuck in Rush Hour Traffic, making a1hr trip take nearly 2hrs. Lucky for me, her cousins were still experimenting with her hair when I got there, so no harm, no foul.

Heading back to Campus, we got lost. It never actually occured to me that driving to CUA meant Driving In DC. We somehow got lost in Southeast DC, a place where I feared to stop the car at STOP LIGHTS. It's prolly not THAT bad, but i wouldn't chance it, myself. Thank the Lord for Cell-phones - my dad knows DC marginally well, at least well enough that he could get a map and figure out where were we, where we wanted to be, and how to get there. Claire has now 'met' my parents. ^_^

The dance was good, and I saw Meg and Becky and Katie and Brooklyn and Dan and Liz and Desi and Sally and... ^_^ I saw lotsa peoples, which made me feel a little better.

The Dance ended at Midnight. We got lost in DC again, but somehow muddled our way back out of there - I later learned that when New York hits Massacusets and 7th, it jumps about 50ft to the left - that is, if you go 'straight' on New York, you end up on Massachusetts, where as if you get on the road going PARALLEL to New York, you'll be ON New York. Dam DC, dam it to the ever burning pits of hell.

The ride home was nice because, as I'm sure each of you have experienced at one time or another, I get a very free tongue when it gets late, and you're talking 1AM before we got out of DC. So me and Claire talked, or rather, I babbled on insesintly and she just kinda sat there smiling at me. It was oddly enjoyable. So enjoyable that we missed out exit by about 20min, and had to double back, but... I didn't mind...

Seems that I have more of a spine than I give myself credit for, because i'm the one who said it first - I told her that I really enjoyed (REALLY enjoyed) spending time with her, but I wasn't really sure how I felt about her. Needless to say, I wasn't sure how she would take that...

She agreed! LOL She, too, liked being with me, but apparently doesn't know eaxactly how she feels about me, either! She said she'd been so nervous about if for so long, she thought she'd develop an ulser! We were both afraid to say that we were each not sure how we felt about the other. How incredably HILLARIOUS is that?

We both felt a little better after that, but I must confess, i'm still a little afraid to be completely honest with her. Not to say I WASN'T, but I'm still afraid to, y'know? LOL I'm a mass of contradictions, I believe - maybe I just find it unbelievable that she could really feel the same way about me - whatever THAT means. ^_^;;

It seems though, that we're both very good for eachother. I shant bore you with the details (for now) but it seems we're each happier people since meeting eachother. Granted, it doesn't simplify my situation any, but I can't complain. I can't complain about much of anything!

Except DC.
I hate DC.

I know EXACTLY what you mean...

I have only had the dubious pleasure of driving in DC once...and I was only riding in a taxi. Once, I learned how to say "What is the final destination of motionless taxi?" in Japanese, because someone thought it would be a funny thing to say to the driver while in Tokyo, where apparently, traffic moves at the speed of one centimeter per millenia. Well, it couldn't be any worse than this. Not ONLY were DC roads changing the laws of physics left and right, not ONLY did I think the bloody cab was PARKED due to the fact that we weren't moving AT ALL, not ONLY were stupid DC drivers (the second-worst I've ever experiences) trying to cut into that half-inch space between our front bumper and the car ahead of us' back bumper, but it was also RAINING BUCKETS and SLEETING. >_< It was miserable, and I had to do it TWICE. Such was the magic of Katsucon 7.

Anyway, enough of that. I'm so happy you had a marvelous time at the dance!!!! ^_^ If I knew a way to contact Claire immediately, I would ask her if your dancing has improved at all. ^_- just kidding. You have the spirit for dancing, if not the rhythm, and that's what really counts. And I'm glad you had a chance to induct Claire into the beautiful world of Listening to Andrew Babble Whilst Maintaining a Realistic Smile of Comprehension. ^_^ Congrats on your honesty, too, by the by. You're my hero. ^_^

oh dear...
