OK, so get this: I just got Spam on my LiveJournal. I can't express how angry this makes me. It was on my Last Post, and it went something like this:
Now, I'll admit, it sounds like what they're doing is, in a sense, a 'good thing.' The whole sense of 'beauty' that America seems to have is pretty flawed, so there's that. And in a certain light -- specifically the "Andrew is a Chick" thing -- it's kinda funny. But it got me pretty angry, so I decided to write Richard an email. It went something like this:
In truth, I feel bad about the whole thing, still. I got *really* angry about it, and I don't like it when I get angry. It kinda goes back to what I was saying to Jesse: I've been really angry lately. Like, under the surface, bottled up and waiting for an excuse to boil to the top. Little things make me more angry these days than I remember them before, or that I think they should. I shouldn't get angry the way I do, or to the extent I do. And this just seems to remind me of that. -shrugs-

cultural backgrounds for "Inner Beauties of DC"
photo collage book
We are working on a photo collage & lifestory

an antidote to the vacuous, one-dimensional,
and airbrushed LA glamour type of nothing-to-say
models that are too tritely prevalent today.
We want to shed light through artistic photographs
and your own edited lifestory vignettes of the
inner beauties, women age 21-50, of Washington
DC Metro area who juggle work, social, family and creative
lives with the grace, character and indomitable
spirits that we believe are the epitome presentations
of the strength, sensibilities and sensualities
of modern womanhood.

PLEASE UNDERSTAND THAT THERE IS A RIGOROUS BUT
FAIR, EXCITING AND FUN SCREENING AND EVALUATION
PROCESS TO SELECT THE FINALISTS - THANKS, RICHARD

be equally divided by the women portrayed in the
book and ten percent to be directly contributed to
the Red Cross chapter of Washington DC
Shooting sessions will be conducted on Thursday & Friday
evening and Saturdays in McLean, VA

We bear all the publishing, marketing and administrative costs -
there are no fees whatsoever to be incurred by you except the time

Now, I'll admit, it sounds like what they're doing is, in a sense, a 'good thing.' The whole sense of 'beauty' that America seems to have is pretty flawed, so there's that. And in a certain light -- specifically the "Andrew is a Chick" thing -- it's kinda funny. But it got me pretty angry, so I decided to write Richard an email. It went something like this:
Mr. Chu,
I just received your advertisement as a comment on my LiveJournal. I don't believe I can express to you how angry it made me, and I certainly can't do so in civil terms. I do not appreciate unsolicited emails, and this I consider to be significantly more intrusive and offensive. I would even mark it as worse than telemarketers calling during dinner. As such, I've marked your comment as spam and, nothing personal, truly hope your account gets banned because I believe what you've done is wrong.
I strongly recommend that you find some other way to advertise yourself. I'm no business guru, but my gut tells me that you'll infuriate more people than you interest, and as such contribute to making life more miserable for us all. I wish you luck in your endeavors, but do try to keep it out of people's personal forums.
