Quote of the Day
Student R: Well, who is he to say that?
Dr. Lewis: He's bloody Aristotle. I mean, come on.
So, I'm really glad my friend Tink suggested I go to Senior Design tonight.
Not because it was a good session, but because it was quite possibly the worst session ever.
I get in there late, because I was eating pizza with Tink and her two friends. (One of them was Theresa, have I mentioned her here?) It was bad from the first step into the room, with Zach saying he was upset that Battou wanted all of this demo-work done, and Battou saying "OK, if you want to go off on your own, fine. And if you don't have anything to show at the end of the semester, I'll fail you all."
I tried to hold my tongue -- I really didn't want to be in the position that taking charge would put me in -- but I finally said, "Wait, hold on. You say this, he says that. My understanding was..." And then proceed to command the discussion, checking both Zach and Battou (which was in Zach's favor, cause we're both on the same side), and settling the tensions that had built up. I got Battou to actually tell us what he wanted, and instead of "we'll see how well you can do without me," I got him to give us a reasonable schedule of deadlines. He couldn't even come up with enough demo points to finish out the semester.
Now the trick is to just see that all of this happens, and we'll be fine. Unfortunately, I think that puts me in the role of Leader, which I wanted to avoid, but...
So, yeah. Thanks, Tink. I think.

Date: 2005-02-24 07:44 am (UTC)I'm sorry class was so awful, but at least now you guys know what you need to do to pass the class...
Why am I so good at finding the silver lining for everyone else, and never myself?
