Date: 2004-10-18 02:08 pm (UTC)No, I'm pretty sure I'm voting for Bush in a couple weeks.

Date: 2004-10-18 09:11 pm (UTC)I'm still going to vote for Kerry. I like his politics and I've always been squicked on how much Bush lets his own personal views dictate what he encourages the whole country to do. We've become mostly a country of sheep and I think we need someone who's going to take everything into perspective, not just his own views. But that's just me.

Date: 2004-10-18 09:21 pm (UTC)I will reiterate that I'm not so hot on some of the things Bush tends toward, and in general I think there's a limit on the sorts of things one can and can not legislate on -- not to say I think Bush has or necessarily will over-step his bounds; that's yet up for debate.
However, I do think there are objective truths and facts, and even as I'm against legislation of morality, I'm even more against the idea that "if most (or even all) people like it, it's OK" and that's the way I see Kerry leaning. If many people make a foolish choice, it is still a foolish choice, and whereas you see Bush considering only what he believes, I fear Kerry will have no basis more secure than what popular opinion tells him. If Bush is too firm, Kerry isn't firm enough, and I'd rather err on the side of 'too much' than 'not enough'.
Or something.
And, if you'll allow me to poke a bit of fun with a paraphrase: "We've become sheep. We need someone who will show us what we want."

Date: 2004-10-19 12:30 am (UTC)For the record what I meant there was someone who considerer what the people are thinking and feeling. Someone who will look into what 'we' are trying and wanting to achieve and not just himself and those around him.
If you feel like you are choosing from extremes (At least that is what it sounds like, if I'm wrong my apologies) why don't you look into third party? It may not change the world, but it would be another choice all the same.
And I see what you're saying about Kerry. He does seem to have a majority rules standpoint on a lot of things, but at this point his choices coincide rather well with my own personal beliefs. Plus I think he has a better chance at bringing us back to the rest of the world.
But that branches into my own personal world beliefs so I'll leave them out for the moment. ^.^

Date: 2004-10-19 12:42 am (UTC)I figured that's what you meant, but in a way, that's exactly what I don't want. In a way, I want a president who is willing and able to do what's right, regardless of whose feelings it hurts. I don't think people should be tread on needlessly, but there is something to be said for a person who's willing to stand for what's Right regardless of what's Popular.
Now then, we might debate what IS Right, but...
I'm not so sure any more that I'm deciding between extremes. I could get philosophical, but it would be pointless in this discussion. In a great many ways, Bush and Kerry don't seem all that different to me (and in others, they're polar opposites). Sometimes I DO feel that neither one fits the bill, and I have looked at Third Parties, as far as ideology goes. I don't think, though, that in the current climate, I could vote for one. Too many people still see this as a Two-Party race, and until that changes... Well, until that changes, it WILL be a Two-Party race. it's rather a vicious cycle.
I'd be curious as to your world view. Mine is still in developmental stages -- I think something, I just don't know what it is well enough to give it intelligible expression. That being said, I'm afraid that Kerry's 'concern' for what other think might effect us adversely in the World Arena, too. I'm afraid his 'majority rule' would hold sway their, too, and he would move or not move as it best suited other countries. He'd be that nerdy little kid following the 6th-graders around on the playground, and if they told him to eat a bug, I think he just might.
