jackofallgeeks: (Seriously Though)

I can't say this in the community, so I'm posting here on my journal... I don't mean to sound as scathing as I fear I might, but I find it morbidly fascinating that this girl's whole explaination for being ProChoice boils down to the fact that she simply doesn't care.

At least if people who claimed to believe in science knew some science... *sigh*

Multiverse theory (about as far as you can get from 'tested until it becomes fact' as you can get and still be somewhere in the neighborhood of science) would not imply that there are no facts - merely that the laws of science are 'local' to a universe. (Grr. Does the fact that the laws of New York are different than the laws of Maryland mean that there are no laws of New York? No, of course not).

I could rant for a while on the issue of taking the question of whether something is a blastocyst to be somehow more respectable than the question of whether it's a person just because the first question is scientific (what? when did the scientific method become the sole arbiter of truth? even if you don't want to go squishy, are there not mathematical truths? can't test those...). But I won't.

And: the next time I hear the "no deity = no right or wrong" claim from either side of the theological aisle, I'm going to prove them right by killing them, I think.

Amazing. She's managed to give liberals, secularists, scientists, pro-choicers, and misanthropes a bad name all in one rant.

In short: Grr. I agree.

Totally with you on that one. She doesn't make any distinction between humans and animals...she says that pro-life arguments are all based on religion (man, do I hate that misconception), and yet concedes that the fetus is human...she just doesn't care.

Most pagans I know do not see a difference between their pet cat and the next human to walk past them in the street.
Some people do see humans as part of the animal kingdom. Myself being one of them. I hold humans and animals equally in any given equation. :D

*shrug* She's entitled to her opinion. I just don't think it makes a very good pro-choice argument, since it could just as easily be used to argue that parents should be able to kill their children...they're human, sure, but they're taking up resources, and if they're a burden to the parents, why not?

Agreed it could be used to support something such as you stated.

Then again... people will continue to justify human behaviour until the sky falls.

By this I mean that every human has a basic instinct; survival. When a person's career/body/mind/etc is threatened it is in our nature to defend it.

The only differences between the two sides that I personally can see is that our moral standards are quite polar when we put them side to side and thus resulting in pro vs. anti.

Actually, I was trying to find a reasonable place to ask about Friending you -- not something I typically do, but as it seems your Journal is Friends Only, whether or not you add me back makes a difference.

So, yeah, what says you?

I feel the need to dish out a warning about alot of TMI in my journal, but on second thought it would be more funny if I didn't.
I'll let the shock value (or lack there of) speak for itself.

Added.
