So, to start off the post, I was in an accident this morning. And I'm in a rather sour mood right now, notably due to what sparked my last post. (No, not the meme, the other one...)

But we'll get to that...

Friday night was fun -- played Changeling, got home at about 2:00 am. It was fun and stuff, and Meg started her character. We also actually started getting somewhere, though it felt a little disjointed an contrived (to me) at parts. Gallin isn't really supposed to be the Leader type, but he was. I think we need a good strong leader, and I think I'll have to make him fill that post. Maybe this can lead him down the Dark Side, or something...

Anyways, Gene came down Saturday morning to help us finish moving, and told me that he and I were expected in Front Royal for dinner. He's out there for the summer living with four other guys, and their are two houses with five girls each there (Suzannah is one of the ten ladies). Gene's house and one of the girls' houses swap back and forth cooking dinner, and one way or another, Gene had told Kate that we'd be out there. Which is why we didn't get to Tina's party (sorry).

Kate made a nice stroganoff-sorta thing, and dinner conversation was entertaining. She reminded me a lot of Emily Croft, down to the boy-short hair, style and tone of speech, mannerisms, and oddities. which is amusing, because Emily is 100% Virginian and Kate is home-grown Canadian.
The other ladies there were Monica, Beth, Brittany, Liz, and a local friend Anne. Brittany was my favorite, a dark-haired irish-looking girl, pretty smile and a nice laugh. She made breaded chicken and apple pie for Sunday, which I stayed for. The chicken was great as was the pie, though it reminded me how little I care for really sweet things.

After dinner, we spent the rest of the evening discussing what we should do for the rest of the evening. Plans for going to one party, then another party, then making a bonfire, then playing Capture the flag, and finally watching a movie at the Girls' fell through. In the end, Dave, Gene, Beth, Liz, and I watched "The Princess and the Warrior", a German film about an asylum which, oddly enough, I've seen before, though not in full. I think I rather liked it.

We finished the night be playing Halo (first time for me) which was pretty cool, though being mowed down over and over as a novice to the game is rarely very stimulating... I also got the usual vibe hanging out with the Guys Gene's living with... It's a not-quite-aggressive feeling, much as I might expect between two opposing hunter-cats or something. At least subconciously, they're competition. Which is my standard reaction to other guys, on a basic level. -shrugs- They were cool, though, don't get me wrong.

Sunday was rather nondescript. Gene and I got up and went to Mass -- they're a much more conservative sort out there, and I felt mildly uncomfortable receiving communion on my tongue. That used to be the only acceptable way, before Vatican 2 I think... Anyways, went back to his place and then to The Girls', as we were supposed to have Brunch at Noon.

Supposed to, but didn't -- as Kate said, Brunch had become Lupper, because no one was there at noon, or at 1:00, and it was nearly 2:00 before people came by and we had the food all set. It was nice -- Kate made cornbread and Monica did bacon, eggs, and sausage.

Sometime after Brunch I went over to the other Girls' House, looking to say Hi to Suzannah, but no one was around. We played some more Halo, and then I went to check again. This time I found Ariel there, who I know slightly from Contra, and she told me that Suzannah had gone home for the weekend. I said I'd be around until after dinner, and she said she'd let Suzannah know I'd been looking for her when she got back. We ate Brittany's chicken and pie, and had amusing dinner conversation, and at about 9:00 I decided I should get heading home... One last check with Ariel to see if Suzannah was in (she wasn't), and then on the road home. Got back around 11pm, packed my stuff to take to Kenny's this morning, and then to bed.

I got up, put my suitcase and such in the car, and took off before 6am to get to work. Driving up 210, a pickup one car ahead of my breaks, the SUV in front of me breaks and pulls to the left to avoid hitting. I break and stop just behind the SUV. Then the lady behind me slams into my back, I hit the SUV, he hits the pickup, and then a fifth guy wants in and hits the lady behind me. Our cars stagger to the left as out of the way as we can get them, and we survey the damage.

The pickup had nothing. Maybe a few scratches. The SUV had less than that. My back bumper was cracked in several spots, and my engine block was half the size it should have been. The lady behind me had a smashed-up front and deployed air-bags, and the guy behind her had yet another squished front. The cop came and talked to us all, but didn't lay blame on any one person -- he noted that it typically ends up each rear-ender is at fault for each rear-end. I'm going to dispute that call if it's made, because I was pushed into the SUV. I think it was all The Lady's fault, or maybe the guy behind her, but I don't know when he hit.

An ambulance came by, but no one seemed injured, and no one took treatment. A bit after leaving the scene me neck and arm felt stiff, and now those are gone but the spot just between my shoulder-blades hurts. I hate how cliche it seems, but I may go to the doctor and have it looked at.

The Tow-truck guy thought that Aycesis would be totaled, but dad's not so sure. I'm hoping not; I love that car. On the way to the body-shop, it dawned on me what not having a car would mean -- a loss of nearly all my independence and little chance of seeing any of my friends, at all. Because of my job, though, I think we're going to see if Gene can drop Agatha back here, and I'll go back to driving her around.

Worst case scenario, Aycesis is totaled, I get charged fault and my insurance goes up, and I'm down $500 on the deductible. Best case scenario, Aycesis pulls through fine, Someone Else gets charged fault, I get no marks on my record nor increase in insurance, and my $500 is refunded by their Insurance Company.

I was thinking I might stay until 5:00, but I may leave around 4:00 or 4:30 anyways... I'm tired.

Update: Just talked to my dad, and he said that the Insurance Company called and said that, based on my story and the police report, I was not at fault, and so they're waiving the deductible! Whee.

-smiles- Thanks, Dear.
And i'm not hurt horribly so, but if my back doesn't stop it with this dull pain and tightness, I may go to the doctor's anyhow...

Speaking from personal experience, definitely get that looked at. Neck/shoulder injuries are often subtle that way, but can have EXTREMELY lasting effects. I was in accident in '96 (my fault) and I thought I was fine, but to this day I still have neck cricks that I never had before that day.

I totaled my car a couple of years ago and I remember looking at it behind me on the tow-truck's flatbed and thinking, "Gee, it don't look so bad from this angle?" And THAT made me want to cry.

The important thing is you're okay.

Quite.  :p
Unfortunately, with the loss of my car, it's unlikely I'll be able to make the Unsung appointment on the 17th, which is really disappointing.  :(

Can't get to a Metro station? I can pick you up from the College Park station.

Heck, if you can get within 10 minutes of me, I can pick you up.

Getting there isn't so much the trouble as getting home -- I live in La Plata, an hour south of DC. It's one thing for me for me to be foolish and make that drive at all hours, but with no car, i'm quite stranded.
