It's a Poll
This is a poll on the legalization of Homosexual Marriages and 'Civil Unions.' I won't say what my stance is (and really, it can't be summed up into Yes-No-Maybe), though I'm sure you could all guess it pretty close. Anyways, just thought I'd throw it out there and stuff.

Date: 2003-12-23 07:00 pm (UTC)Unbeknownst to you (but knownst to me), your clever quips touch on a few recent thoughts I've had. And that is, generally, I don't really care WHAT the Government says about Marriage, because frankly, I already disagree with some of what they say. In fact, if not for one point, I'd say that I'd rather the Government said NOTHING on marriage. Of course, the one point is that The State has a vested interest in the encouragement and perpetuation of stable family units, which is why we have 'marriage benefits' in the first place. And, tangentially, it could be argued, on a political-philosophical level, that it is the government's place, also, to set and encourage morality, but in as far as that goes, I'd argue that we have done a rather poor job of it -- all things bow to individual whim.
So, yes, aside from the arguable point of a continued erosion of the general moral fibre of our already failing society, I don't really care much what the Government does or does not consider a marriage -- my concept of the thing is already at odds with theirs.
