I just ate a thing of Pez after finishing my soda -- Nestea, cause it was either that or Diet Coke. Worst of two evils and all that. I was a DumbThing(tm) again this morning and left the room without eating breakfast, though I prolly could have grabbed an english muffin or something... It's not so bad, though, cause I do have my Pez (three more in the pack), and I think I'm still digesting some of last night's dinner, so I'm not starving.

I was supposed t'go home t'day, but I haven't even started packing yet. Tim didn't seem to get that concept -- he proceeded to ask if I'd packed such-and-stuff or this-and-that, and when I repeatedly said 'no,' he asked what I HAD packed. He means well, he's just not the sharpest bulb in the pack. Or something.

You know, I like pretending I'm clever and mixing up those 'sharpest tool in the shed' things, but there's only so many ways you can do it and still have it incongruous. I mean, you can have a sharp crayon, or a bright tool, or a... uhm... whatever, I lost my train of though. *points* Look, shiny things!

Yeah, I'm a little bored here at work. I've been crunching code for the last four hours or so, and just need a little break. Ive managed to fix a bunch of little bugs today, though, so it's not like I'm a complete waste.

And oddly enough, on that note, I have GoodNews and I've got BadNews.

The BadNews is that I found out today why there's been such toe-stepping around my continued work here at NRL. As both Rommel and Frank have told me today, Henry (my boss, or rather my boss's boss -- our Project Manager) has been hit with reasonably severe funding cuts for next year. Which means he has enough money for me to finish out my contract through December 31st, but likely can't afford to keep me on the project after that. In fact, to hear Frank talk about it, Henry may not be able to keep him or Suleyman on very well, either. This all means, of course, that I may have to go back to working the Campus computer lab as my only source of income again. Not a horrible situation in the least, mind you, but a pretty drastic cut in pay, not to mention interesting work. Webwork only sustains one for so long.

The GoodNews, however, is that I did get to talk to Frank about this, and he actually had quite a bit more to say about it than Suleyman ("I'll talk to Henry about it"). Anyways, Frank and I were talking, and he told me about the funding cuts, and so we started talking about other job opportunities I might have here on the lab. He says that contractors (that's me) get moved around between projects quite a bit at the lab, which means that a cut in funding doesn't necessarily mean that I'm out of a job. Someone somewhere has money and is looking for help, and the trick is just finding them. He said he'd ask around and tell a few of the other Project Managers that, if they need workers, I'm interested in sticking around. He even said he'd ask Linda, who's Henry's Boss. So, yeah, maybe I won't be booted, after all.

And I guess that's pretty much that... I'm here for an hour or so, then I'm gonna go home and start packing up -- my clothes, my books, my computer... Chris was gonna have some people over tonight for a movie and such after exams, and then I'm going to head home as soon as I wake up in the morning. From there, we'll see what my internet access is like for the next month (classes resume on January 12th).
