I'm sorry but I'm just thinking of the right words to say.
I know they don't sound the way I planned them to be.

The question on everyone's mind (or at least, the one I assume to be there) is how my weekend went. Where should I start? I suppose the beginning is typically customary, and so, we proceed.

It all began on a typical spring night on the day of May 10, 1983. The sky was dark, the wind was cool, and in that military hospital in San Diego, California, I came into the world. Luckily for all of you, then most of the next nineteen years, while connected, not directly pertinent to the story at hand. I did, however, ride my bike down a large hill in second grade, flip over the curb, and split the back of my head. Luckily for my bike, I broke it's fall, and it was still getting used by my little brother until recently. But that's not really consequential to the story, either.

At about 6:00 on Friday evening, Claire gave me a call from her Cell, saying that she was lost in DC. Likely she had made the fatal error of assuming that laws of reality continue to hold true inside the DC city limits. Poor girl. Being the computer savvy individual (read: Computer Geek) that I am, I hopped onto MapQuest and found a DC map, and proceeded to direct her towards my dorm. However, she kept going down the right streets the wrong way and taking roads that I hadn't mentioned when I told her exactly where to go. Eventually, by some random quirk which rules DC, she managed to find my school, but instead of going to the end of the street like I told her to, she parked on the FAR side of campus. I told her I'd meet her 1/2 way on the street, and headed out.

We met along the street, and she was a pleather clad angel. ^_^ She also had her hair down, which I am convinced was especially for me, since she seems to not like her hair down save for when she's sleeping. After berating her on how she seems unable to follow my directions, he headed back to my room where I finished packing my stuff and then went back to her car. When we got there, I gave Claire her (hopefully unexpected) Christmas Present - two Magic: the Gathering decks and a book called "Catholic Christianity." I hope she enjoys them.

When we got to Gramma's house, Claire was unsure of what to call Gramma - I told her Gramma should be good, but she didn't believe me. We went in and I introduced them, and it was all good. The three of us had dinner together (cause Grampa was outta town) and then we chatted for a long while. Afterwards, me and Claire went downstairs to play a game of M:tG.

That game never got started because right then Jen and Shawn arrived, with my nephews Luke and Alex. I introduced Claire to them, and there was handshaking and such - rather odd now that I look back on it, but... The four of us went out for a walk because I like walks, and frankly it's a good excuse to have my arm around Claire. We went down to the park by Gramma's and sat on the swings, but some guy kept passing us by in his little blue bubble-car and shining a big flashlight at us, as we stared back blankly at him. He then pulled up along side the park and shined the light at us again. When we didn't move, he pulled away, chirping his horn as he left - rather reminded me of Raptors, like he was calling for someone. The girls (and I dare say Shawn, too) got scared, and wanted to go back. I laughed at them, but we went home anyways, and then found that you're not supposed to be at the park after dark. So we went down to the basement where I told them of my 'interesting' trip to West Virginia, of Visa Versa, and of Austin. It was fun stuff. We stayed up rather late because going to bed meant Claire would have to leave me, and I didn't want that. But, eventually we did all head to bed.

We got up at about noon on Saturday, and when I say 'we' I mean 'I'. I went upstairs to get Claire up, which pretty much consisted of me walking in on a half-awake Claire and then the two of us talking for 15 to 30 minutes as we held each other on her bed. After that, she took a shower and we had breakfast, and then the four of us went out to Bethesda, where I went to the bank, got a haircut, and we had lunch. From there we went to Pick my friend Katie up from CUA, who was also friends with Jenny, and we took her back to Gramma's for Lasagna dinner.

When we got there, a large number of my aunts and uncles and cousins were there, so I introduced Claire, and my uncles took turns engaging her in conversation and the like. Then we went downstairs, to see the Cousins, who of course were playing Super Smash Brothers Melee. I had to get my licks in (Zelda royally kicks, and I'm getting better with her, using Sheik, too) and even got Claire to play a game or two. My Uncle Raul, the uncle who teases the most, arrived while we were down there, and mistook Katie for Claire, and so she received the brunt of his 'aggressions' and Claire was spared. I found it humorous. ^_^

At nine, me, Claire, Jenny, Shawn, and Katie were going Ice Skating, and I invited Tina (my cousin) to come along with us. We went ice skating (my first time ever) and it was pretty cool (no pun intended), then we went by Starbucks for some coffee. My tongue is still burned from that.

When we got home, we were all quite tired. Jen and Shawn almost immediately went to bed. The three unmarried teenagers (me, Claire, and Tina) however, figured we'd stay up some and watch a bit of the dubbed Bakaretsu Hunters. Me and Claire were laying on the one couch, with my arms around her, and Tina was on the other. I stuck through the dubbing because I didn't want to go to bed and have to leave Claire (and really, it wasn't THAT bad...really....) and apparently Claire wanted to stay with me, too. She suggested that it'd just be easiest if we all decided to sleep there, and so we did, me holding Claire on the one couch and Tina on the other. Much the joy. But all of a sudden, we weren't tired, so the three of us stayed up talking about much of nothing, until we all drifted off to sleep.

Due to an oversight on my part I believe (I'd left my bedroom door open) Gramma came down at some unGodly hour of the morning and told us all to get into real beds. Groggily I stumbled up to my deep, empty, lonely bed, and crawled under the covers for a few more hours of sleep. At eleven, I got up, and went to "get Claire up" again. She complained about wanting to go back to bed (even though she's reportedly been up for a while, and the room was too bright), but I wouldn't let her, and we had Mass at 12:30 anyways, so we got up, got showered, and the 5 of us walked down to St. Jude's for Church.

Now then, I don't want to make this entry subject of religious arguments, but we all know my stand on Catholicism and coincidences. The homily for this mass couldn't have been planned better. The deacon who was saying it told of how, after hopping around a number of Protestant churches, he found, quote, "the fullness of faith in Catholicism." Again, don't make this a religious issue, but I thought it was grand.

After church, we went to Taco Bell for lunch, because I was really craving a grilled steak burrito, and there I told Jen and Shawn and Tina the 'expanded' version of how Claire and I met. They had all heard the 'we met at a con' deal, but not the full story - the videos, the dance, the halls, the Otaku Choir, the lockout, the night on the floor, and the morning in the shower. It was all very fun.

We got back home and Claire and I managed to play that M:tG game we'd attempted to start on Friday, and then it was about time for Claire to leave, so we went up to her room to pack up her stuff and ended up sitting on the side of her bed holding each other for ten or fifteen minutes. of course, Shawn then came up and reminded us that Claire had to go - his ulterior motive, I'm sure, is that he wants Claire to play in his symphony, and he didn't want her to get grounded for being home late. So downstairs 'everyone' said goodbye to Claire (hugs all around this time) and I walked her out to her car, where we said goodbye again, and she said she should leave before she started crying.

And then she drove off, and that was the end. Jen and Shawn were there another 3hrs, till 8:00, and family was there till 9:00, and I didn't get back to my room till 10:00. The world was a little deader, a little colder, a little less colorful. The couch wasn't as comfortable, and even Melee was bitter-sweet (though, Zelda still kicks). Mercifully, Claire was on when I got there, and we talked. We both said that we missed one another, and she said she'd cried on the way home (collective "aw"). I laughed, saying this is how bad we were after one month - what would happen over the summer?

Everything changes, and yet it's all the same.

"You guys are doing the right thing, playing it safe." Shawn said, referring to how me and Claire aren't 'together'.

"Or we're just fooling ourselves." I replied.

Sounds like you guys had a lot of fun! Claire mistakenly put me in with that side of the family... and I explained how I'm related to you from that huge Portner side. She's got lots more to meet! Including me! Claire! When do I get to meet you?! :-) Anyways... glad you had a good time Andrew... and you got in a Magic game... lol. I honestly think I have forgotten how to play completely now. We'll just have to stick to Settlers.
