A Light In The Darkness

*explodes with joy*
They're finishing it! They're finishing the World Of Darkness!
I'm so happy, I'm vibrating!
Maybe a little background is in order. A long time ago, early in Highschool, I heard about Vampire: The Masquerade. now, it's taken alot of gruff, as all things must, due to some of the weirdos who got into it, but I thought it was a great idea, and had alot of potential. A few years later I really started getting into it, the World of Darkness. I played Werewolf with Leslie, Carrie-Anne, Em, Parker, Chris, and The Others, but my true joy was Mage: the Ascension. It had the best, most flexible, most true Magic system i'd seen, and I loved the whole feel of The World of Darkness. Dark, gritty, the same feel that Batman, Daredevil, Bladerunner, Equilibrium, and the like had....
Unfortunately, my Werewolf, Watanabe Akio, was only in play for a couple of sessions, and I've yet to find another group, let alone play in another game. I have alot of the books -- not all of them, but most. My disappointment came as I started searching for the Tradition Books for Mage -- books detailing the different types of Characters. My favorite Tradion, The Order of Hermes, did not have a Revised book. infact, about half of the Traditions were without Revised books. And that's when I heard -- White Wolf was discontinuing the World of Darkness. There would be no more.
I set about getting what books I could -- Revised where it was available, and previous editions where it wasn't, like my beloved Order of Hermes. It was alright, but disappointing that a game with such potential would die such a sorry death. i was also disappointed that I wouldn't get to see the new material that would have been in the other Revised books. So much potential...
I have recently (since last Katsucon, I believe) gotten into Megatokyo, the webcomic, and I was disappointed that I missed buying the Graphic Novel. Today at work, after getting rather wrappped up in the storyline, I decided that I'd go order it tonight. So, I got online and went to the site, only to find they were temporarily out of stock! Not to be foiled, I ran to Amazon and looked up the book - and yes, they had it! I added it to my cart, but figured I should probably make a full trip of it -- I would eventually buy more anyways, why not save on shipping? I was actually looking to buy some of the Mage novels, as I wanted to compare what they've done with what I plan on doing. That's when I saw it: Traditionbook Oder of Hermes. That hadn't been there when I looked to order my book months ago -- I had to watch EBay for weeks to find an auction to get the olde Hermes book. In the back of my mind, I wondered if this was the fabled Holy Grail, but there was no picture, so I couldn't tell. It was probably just the old book, now in stock.
I kept looking for novels and had no luck, so I decided to look up ALL of the White Wolf products Amazon was selling. Fifty-five of them. And in these fifty-five were three other Tradition books, Verbena, Etherites, and Virtual Adepts, all missing from the revised set, all marked for preorder. My heart stopped.
I ran over to White-Wolf.com, to see what was there, and on the front page was an Article about White Wolf's GenCon announcement to complete the World of Darkness. They're finishing it! They're putting out, in the next year, a series of books for The End Times, and they're FINISHING THE TRADITION BOOKS. I went to look at the Release dates: Etherites in September, Verbena in November, Virtual Adepts in December... No listing for Hermes, which was supposed to be the last one released. I ran to check the Online Catalog...
And there it was. The revised Order of Hermes.
I have ordered it. The book I thought would never be printed will be mine before I go back to school.
I. Have. Such. Joy.
You. Have. No. Idea.
Oh, and Arnold Schwarzenegger is running for Govenor. He's got my vote.

Date: 2003-08-07 04:27 am (UTC)Yeah, I heard about the Hunter game (Hunter being one of the newwer additions to the World of Darkness series). Generally, though, I'm less a fan of console games, and I especially feel that RPGs (such as these are) lose alot in the conversion to digital. That having been said, I hear it's a good game. They also made a Vampire: The Masquerade game a while ago, when V:tM was really big, but other than that it exists, I haven't heard anything about it.
