Mmm, Starchy...

Well, I've taken to editing my Journal Style. Nothing like the amazing things I've seen Leslie and Beth do, but... Well, I'll get there. In time. The 'new' look isn't all that revolutionary, but it feels fresher. I'm probably going to keep tweaking the colors (the blue text, while attractive, I think needs a bit of touching-up, to make it a bit more legible) and such until I get it right, and as soon as I figure how to get the Overrides on this new style (it's more than a matter of not knowing how to do it), I'll have a bit of CSS-type fun with it, me thinks.
I'm also considering a new Iconset, too. Thought I may keep a few of the old VashCons, and almost assuredly Chivalrous and Shocked are going to stay (w00+ and stuff to Leslie and Alyce!), but maybe get a few new pics up there... Though, don't expect to see any pics of me anytime soon. I'm quite camera shy. -nods to this-
(I really am a fan of "Drinkie Drinkie," "Dark," and "Goofy," though... Hmm, maybe change up the other five...?)
I had something more to say. Life is good. A few sour grapes, I fear, but those things happen. One really just needs to sit back, relax, and recognize that he really does know a lot of lovely ladies.

On a Geekier Note, The Boys and I found a Comic Shop last weekend, and though they have a limited selection of cards, they are trying to get Friday Night Magic (as in Magic: The Gathering, for the uninitiated) started up. Tonight, me and The Boys (we could be the Italian Mafia -- or better yet, the Irish Mafia) are going over there. It's going to be Type 1, meaning everything back as far as the Olden Days of Magic is legal. O.o I don't know what to expect, especially if we're playing Real Veterans. I tried building a new deck (titled PseudoFae, to go along with Olde Skool Fae and NeoFae, but I'm afraid it didn't do so well (though, that Treetop Scout is the new Scryb Sprites!), and so I may just take The Conclave (a Cleric deck) or Olde Skool Fae (I fear the girl is showing her age, though) and hope for the best.
And, TechType, I've been reading up on CSS, and I'm not making an effort to get away from tags like <i> and <b> in favor of <em> and <strong>. S'a hard habit to break, mixing style and content; and, sometimes, I think CSS limits one in ways that Olde HTML didn't, though I'll admit it is much, much easier to read, understand, and (most importantly) edit.

Update: Blarg and such to this new Layout Editor. It is only in Beta, though... I blarg anyhow. I'll mess with my journal later on, but until then it may look funky. Y'know, incase anyone ever looks at it. -laughs-

Date: 2003-07-25 06:51 am (UTC)Yeah... CSS. I used it do some things with my tables and text and whatnot (which is hard or impossible to do without CSS) but nothing too fancy. It did make life easier just attaching a tag to tables or cells and then being able to edit your whole site in one file. It also makes your files somewhat more uncluttered methinks, which is good for me since I have piles of php scattered about too. It's good for uniform look and feel. I don't think you can encapsulate your site so well that all you EVER need to change is your .css, but eh... you can get pretty close. And I stick to and thank ye all the same. ^^;;

Date: 2003-07-25 07:06 am (UTC)You missed your tags there, my friend. In order to get them to show up, you have to use & lt ; (no spaces) instead of <, or else the browser processes the tag.
Yeah, I've tried to do fancy things with HTML myself, and I've achieved some decent results, but I just now took time to read up on CSS, and though I've heard about them for a while, I'm really impressed now that I see what they can do. And being that they work with XML as well -- wow. With a little forethought, you can really do some fun stuff. The thing I like the best, actually, is the way it makes your HTM less cluttered, and the ability to port the same content over different style sheets I find interesting, too.
Once I get those Overrides, I'm going to see about building my own style into my page, and do some fancy type stuff, yeah.
I think I had more to say...

Date: 2003-07-25 07:19 am (UTC)My only question is this: <em> italicizes by default, as <strong> bold-faces things be default. Necessarily, then, won't <em> ALWAYS italicize, and <strong> ALWAYS bold-face?
