Youre my happy ending.

I'm afraid I will never be able to say this to someone.

I want This Statuette of a StarCraft2 Terran Marine, Tychus Findlay. I can pay for it. i'm trying to think of reasons why I shouldn't buy it.

So tonight at the game shop there was an unsanctioned constructed event -- for the layman, that means we all bring our own decks to play, but it's "unofficial" so none of the scoring gets recorded in our Permanent Record. I wasn't planning on playing, I was planning on hanging out with Laurel and watching a movie or The Office or something. It didn't quite happen like that.

Brian, Laurel's boyfriend, wanted to stop by the shop for trades, so we decided I should just go meet them there. I did, and we found that they only have 7 people playing, which is kind of a crummy number to go with, and 8 is much happier. I had a deck to play with, so I said I'd join if someone paid for me, but since I had plans with Laurel I was just going to play one round and then drop, so we could go do our thing.

I sat down to play against Chris K., and I whomped him. It almost wasn't even funny. But I thought it was kind of, y'know, crummy to whomp a guy and then drop, so I marked the slip that he'd beat me, and then dropped. In the meantime Laurel had gotten hungry and we'd decided to order pizza there ('cause there's a deal if you order at the card shop for whatever reason), so we were now sitting to wait for our pizza to come.

And wait we did. We waited and waited and waited. And while we waited, rounds two and three got played. Our pizza came just before round 4 ended, and Chris and the others guys were speculating who would get in; Chris was feeling pretty good because he had two solid wins and the other guys all had byes (less than a win, more than a loss); Bruce, one of my buddies, was feeling kinda down 'cause he was 2-and-2, with one of his wins being a Bye, so he was pretty sure he wouldn't be in. they called Top Four and... Bruce was in, Chris was out. It turns out that one guy won all four matches, another guy went 3-1, and everyone else had 2-2 records, meaning it went to tie breakers.

But it gets better. See, with Tie Breakers, what matters is the records of the guys you beat. One of Chris's Tie Breakers was me, and I had a 0-Drop record, which is basically the worst record you can have. In trying to give Chris a sporting chance, I killed his tie breakers. What's even funnier is that if I'd continued playing after round one (and won, presumably; I was playing side games while waiting for pizza and my deck was a beast, so it's not unlikely) then Chris would have had a MUCH better tie breaker and would have gotten into the Top Four -- but if I'd planned on playing my rounds through, I wouldn't have given Chris the win!
