So, yeah, room selection was t'night. Basically, everyone was given a lottery number - presumably based on some system - and as one's number was called, one picked a room and his room-mates. Our low-number was 251, granted not really all that low, but out of 500-some (I'm told), it wasn't bad. The four of us had aspirations for CV - the 'good' dorms. Sadly, just before we got up there, all the CV rooms were filled, and thus, we were pushed to our second bet - returning to Flather 3. I have no real issues against Flather, it's better than the other dorms (or that's the impression I'm under), and on the plus side we got a corner room, 311, slightly larger than the room I'm in now.
I have few gripes, but the gripes I do have are not small. In all, I'm rather unsatisfied, though my only real issue is with the lottery system - or lack there of.
You see, it would be reasonable to assume that a University would give the choicest picks to it's best students. However, simply among our group of 4, the guy with the highest GPA also had the highest lottery number - which meant the lowwest selection. This, right away, is an injury, but even if that could be over looked, you would at least assume that the school would 'punnish' those students with disciplinary problems. Once again, however, the Resident Housing Orgaization (RHO) dropped the ball - a student who is KNOWN to have multiple alcohol write-ups, and presumed to have a lowwer GPA at that, had a number of 188 - a little less than 100 points better than our best number. So, if the lottery is based not on GPA or even disciplinary standing, what is it based on?
Nothing. That's the only conclution I can come to, and it's not a very pleasing one.
The post turns darker as I announce word on my car - it can't be fixed. Or rather, it could, but at $3500, and even I agree that it's not worth that. The car is shot. The Baron served me well in his time - a good friend and steady companion, he accompanied me on many tans-state journeys. He was with me at NekoCon Flash, and when I visited Claire, and Oli, and Jenny. He trudged out to West Virginia with me, a cold week in January. Little did we know he wouldn't be with us in another couple of months. Even aside from that, he watched me grow up, brought me home from the Frozen Wastes, and was with me through that long, hot summer.
I never got to tell him I had a girlfriend...
All is not bleak, however. I've renewed my fervor in Magic, and my two friends, Trevor and Rose, show marginal interest in playing. I've also been inspired, once again, to start writing my story, and have quite a few ideas on it. I have a (slightly) larger room next year, and it is familiar. And in but a few short (HA) weeks, I'll see Claire again.
It could be worse. I don't know how, but it could be. ^^;;
