The Hill

Liamr slid down to his right knee, his hands still grasping the hilt of the large broadsword stuck in the grassy hillside. He had been trying to loosen his blade, but now his hands sought only support. The strong winds which the dispelling magiks had created died quickly.

"We did it." Liamr said, hardly believing the joy that his own voice held. His muscles glistened with sweat as the dark clouds broke away, revealing the sun. "It's over, Jaeryl. He's gone."

At the crest of the hill was a young man, robed in blue and carrying a silvery staff. His thick mane of hair, though untouched by the natural winds, seemed to be blown slowly by some other-worldly force. He walked around a large black form, the form of the... beast they had just destroyed. That thing had once been a great wizard, but the man it had been had died long before this day.

Liamr found new strength and bounded up the hill to his friend. The black form had scorched the ground where it fell, leaving a pitted, smoldering blight. Liamr's joy faltered when he saw the solemn expression of his friend.

"Jaeryl, it's finished. This Beast will never harm another. We did it. We did it, Jaeryl."

Jaeryl shook his head slowly, his yellow eyes down-turned.

"No, Liamr... it's not over..." Jaeryl looked up and gestured out to the town, several miles away and still in the shadow of the Beast's great Keep. The Forest, which had died in the presence of such evil, already looked greener, but the riverbank was still dry, and the gray-ish vines still crawled like a serpent over the city walls.

"The beast is dead, yes," Jaeryl continued, "But so it Kierin. And Merrik. And how many others? The king is dead, or might as well be. There is no one to lead these people. Most of them have only known this Demon's rule."

A drop of rain fell on Liamr's shoulder, and the scent of a storm came on the air. "It is not over, Liamr. It is never over."

The blue-robed figure walked slowly down the hill, away from the decrepit city.

Alas, like all my other Snippets, this came to my in a moment of Creative Ispiration. i'm not very good at carrying them on for longer than a scene or so... I do like the characters I've created here, Liamr and Jaeryl. Like The Gladiator (http://www.livejournal.com/users/roliasnoom/121786.html) and The Mage (http://www.livejournal.com/users/roliasnoom/149888.html) before them, I intend to write further on them. ^_^;; Infact, I intend to write more for all my Snippets, but as my Namesake proves, I'm not so good at following up (I've been trying to write something intelligable about Rolias Noom since about seventh grade -- and since then, his name has actually been changed to Janus An'Allen).

So, we'll see.
I'll try, I really will.

I am no novella writer... poetry and the likes is more my niche, however, I can give advise from one writer who has trouble finishing half composed pieces to the next... don't try. No really, don't try to force it, start something new that takes place in "the meanwhile"... maybe in the same time and world that you've created, but different characters, and different happenings, you may find yourself then drawn back to the original in a piercing moment of inspired genius, and there it will be... give it a shot, it's worked for me more than once. I look forward to continuing the story. Oh yeah, and sometimes, it doesn't hurt to look at someone who's opinion you respect, and say " what do you think would happen next?" and then see where you can go from there...

See, I think if it got right down to it, what I want to do is write poety, but I can't. It's not my thing. So instead I write these little Snippets, to get a feeling or idea across. I don't think i'm that much of a Storyteller, either. But I think... I think maybe I'll try to restart this Novella, as you term it, that I've been trying to do. -considers-

Well, from the few pieces that I have read, I believe that you have the story there, you just have to find it all, figure how to put it together, and let it finish itself... Oh, and if I am overstepping boundries here, with the advice and such, feel free to stick your tongue out and run away screaming " I don't wanna play with you anymore!" :P I'll understand...

"feel free to stick your tongue out and run away..."
-laughs- Wow, I can't even remember the last time I did that... Which means it must've been at least a week ago.  ^_~

And no, I quite appreciate any and all comments related at all to any of my writing, for or against. That which does not kill me makes me run away and cry. Or something to that effect. Anyways, any comments you have about anything -- my style, my storyline, suggestions you have -- even for my old stuff, I'm more than willing to hear -- in fact, I solicit anything you've got.  ^_^

And, y'know, for everyone else, this goes for you, too. After all, I'm sure I'm not perfect.

Oh, how sad! You should try an at least once a day routine... it makes life much more amusing, and you get some GREAT reactions out of people! :P See? Now isn't that better?! :D

in fact, I solicit anything you've got. ^_^
Anything? Are you sure? I mean, after all, you don't even know me, isn't this rather sudden?! ^_~ No really, I would be more than happy to give my suggestions whenever and wherever needed...
