I was in the Turkey the WHOLE time!

Well, seeing as Leslie, Louis, and Beth have all had their play, I suppose now it's my turn.
Class on Friday would never end. I had half a mind to skip my last class and get to Louis's early, but it was Operating Systems -- one night a week and arguable one of my more difficult classes. It let out a little early, and I went back to my room long enough to grab my stuff and throw it in the car. Louis's house was still when I got there, and the side door was opened. I suspected correctly that that'd been done so that I would enter like any normal person without knocking. it made for twice in all the years that I've known Louis that I'd walked into their house without someone letting me in. ^_^;; I'm kinda weird like that.
Louis's mom is one of the coolest people I've ever met, though apparently she only acts like a mother when I'm around, as far as Louis and his friends go. I find this humorous.
The trip to Salem was quite a blast. Most of my driving has been done alone. Even excluding my days working at the Bagel Bakery and being out-and-about from Sunrise to Sunset, most of my traveling has been done solo. My dad, odd as I find it, is very much an Introvert, and at least a part of my persona I think I inherit from that. This having been the case, though, I'm definitely more on an Extrovert, and having someone else in the car was a good change. The night was dark and foggy, and added a Gothic-Romance feel to the drive. When we hit The Open Road, somewhere past Cumberland, where there were no other cars on the road, that was nice.
We got to Leslie's sometime after 1am, I believe. When my phone finally worked, Leslie and Beth came down to let us in, and we proceeded upstairs. We sat around chatting until the wee hours of the night, and about an hour or two before sunrise, we went to sleep.
I should have slept under the covers, I think.
We woke up early Saturday afternoon, and after showering and getting dressed, went out to Eatin'Park for Breakfast/Lunch. Being that it was a Dennys/Shoneys/RandomDiner-type place, I necessarily got a Burger. ^_^ It was good. And cheap! For all four of us it was only about $30. I should've ordered two Patty Melts....
When we got back to the Dorm, we watched some of Leslie's vids, after much fuss. They were grand, simply marvelous. From Ally McBeal (sp?) to KareKano or Fangirlness, it was grand. The one Solemn KareKano vid was my favorite, I think -- it was very moving. I may be Louis's Number One Fan, but I think Leslie may very easily be competition for The Big Guy, given the right tools. Louis makes great vids, but Leslie has a grand talent for fitting clips to Music. And I mean damn. This, as Louis pointed out, is a big thing, because those who Know Vids know that it's all about style. I was over at Aaron's tonight watching some AMVs he'd DLed off Kazaa -- most of them DBZ and Gundam. And poor ones at that -- little more than a series of action scenes set to some heavy-hitting music. No style, no finesse, just angry music to angry clips. Such a vid COULD be done well, if the scenes were matched at all to the music, but... Anyways, I'm getting off topic...
Around 7:00 or so we went out to Daikoku, which was grand. I love Japanese Restaurants, and I'm yet undecided whether I like Traditional-style (as I assume Daikoku to be) or the Steakhouses. I had several sushi (mmmmm, sushi...) an order of Gyosa ( I LOVE those) and a plate of Teriyaki Beef, which was grand. After we'd all eaten our fill, I also had some of Leslie and Beth's Teriyaki Chicken, and would have finished it if I'd realized they really weren't going to. I also thoroughly enjoyed the Ginger-dressed salad and the miso soup. And yes, Leslie, you made that once when I was at your house, and it rocked. If there's ever a way to earn my eternal affection, it's to cook for me. ^_^
And, might I just say, we had a really pretty waitress. ^_^;; REALLY pretty. Not so drop-dead gorgeous as to siphon my attentions from the lovely ladies I was eating with, but high on my list of Random Beauties. And her name, Kiersten, was nice, too -- I've never actually seen the name spelled before. I intended to leave a nice tip, but would have been embarrassed to leave more than 20%... I'm sure she wouldn't have minded, though...
Then, onto Vice Versa, the Dance Club. We got in there and sat down at a table where, in my opinion, we all interacted the best that entire weekend. Just sitting there and talking was grand. I confess right here, that it irked me a bit the razzing that took place. -shrugs- All in fun, I know, but it just tends to dampen things for me. Even that aside, it was grand. I gotta chat with Beth then and later on when we were left on the Dance floor together. This was really cool because, though I think Beth is an awesome girl and would definitely like to count her among my close friends, she and I have had very little opportunity to interact. There was a little bump there when Leslie wasn't feeling well.. It seems to me that on the one side, Leslie wanted us dancing (we WERE at a club), while on the other side, Beth wanted us together (we WERE here to have a good time with each other). Being the conversationally-inclined person as I am, I made a point that, though we may have fun on the floor, we could just as easily have fun sitting and talking and getting to KNOW each other. Even after ten years, I don't think Louis knows everything about me, let along that most of us had only just met since going to college (I'm really the only one involved that had known ANYONE for more than a couple years). Anyways, Louis unceremoniously got up and marched to the Dance Floor, and I instantly knew what he was up to. Blessed are the Cheesemakers.
The ride about town to get Slurpees et all was nice, though I again confess that the conversation made me a bit uncomfortable. Not so much so that I would've had the discussion dropped on my behalf, but I stayed out of it for my part. Mastication and Fish aren't two of my particular favorite things to discuss. -shrugs- But that's me. The car ride back from Dancetown was cool, and though I've never been a fan of Live Music, Jim wasn't so bad. I think, as well, that mine and Leslie's tastes in music, at least where Jim falls, varies slightly. Though, I did greatly enjoy that new CD of His.
We were about dead, each and every one of us, when we got Back. After successfully sneaking in, thanks in part to two girls dipping out for a late-night smoke/drive/doesntmatter. Leslie and Beth decided to cleanse themselves of the ClubGoo while Louis and I recovered -- him more than me. Night drives seem to energize me. Afterwards, we were all up and about, awake as ever, and Louis did some video type stuff and hacked some Streaming Video off an OZ website for Leslie. Have I ever mentioned I envy Louis for his computer skills? It totally rocked, and though I know the basics behind what he did, the JavaScript and .asf would have halted me. Also note, I want to find the PrincessMaker and PrincessMaker2 ROMs, and maybe see me some OZ. Minus the naked man-flesh, it sounds cool. We crashed at 5am. I had the floor, but it didn't matter much. As I'd guessed, I was beat.
Sunday Morning came sooner than any of us expected. I heard Beth and Louis talking at 11:30, but as per my usual, pretended to still be asleep until well after Leslie was awake. Apparently I sleep soundly enough normally that people don't second-guess me when I fake it. -shrugs- This is odd, as I never seem to have a really hard time waking up.
Anyways, we collected ourselves and headed out to Mexican, where I had alot of chips, and three Cheese Enchiladas. I love Enchiladas, and though these weren't quite up to par when compared to El Rodeo, they weren't overly bad, either. The service, though, sucked, and I must say that I think the $5 we left was more than generous. Argue what you will about them needing the money and what not, I'm not going to pay for service if I didn't like it.
Also note that we saw a really cute Goth-Chik on the way there. She wasn't the grimy, grungy, hate-the-world Goth that one may expect, but a very cute, clear girl with shaggy-cut black hair. She rivals Kiersten for a spot on the list of Random Beauties. Once on the Highways again after lunch, Louis and I were amazed at all the cute girls on the road, until we realized they were all from different states -- mostly Maryland, Ohio, and Texas.
The ride home was mostly quiet. I was doing a fair share of thinking, and I think Louis was more tired than he let on. Cool as the band is, I don't think Jimmy Eat World and their soft music helped much. I think Louis's taste in music falls a bit more to the mellow side of the spectrum than I tend towards. Not that I don't like almost ALL of the same bands, but that I count them on the softer side of the scale.
It was 6pm when I dropped Louis off, and though I'd intended to hang out a bit, I decided to head off after a few minutes. On my way home, I remembered that people were getting together at my Aunt's for my lil' Cousin's Third Birthday, so I made a quick call and headed down New Hampshire Ave, towards Ham, Deviled Eggs, and lots of bread and cousins. ^_^
I managed as well to get back to Campus in time for the 9pm mass, and so my conscience was quieted.
To summarize: Wow.

Date: 2003-03-25 09:12 am (UTC)And hey - I don't think our Jim tastes are different at all. I just wanted to listen to a certain type of Jim that night, for my own reasons. By the by, that album I played wasn't new...it was actually one of his older ones. I'm still waiting for the release of the new one.

Date: 2003-03-25 09:23 am (UTC)As for Jim, perhapse not. It'd be interesting, I think, to compare notes on which of Jim's songs we each thing are the best. Somehow, I think we'd have common ground on 'Stress' if nothing else. I'm also a huge fan of 'Prince Charming.' And when I said 'new' I mean relatively -- that is, aside from a song here or there, I hadn't ever heard those songs before. Therefore, it was new to me. I didn't know he actually had another CD coming out.
'Dead Wood' is also really good. And 'Don't Look Down.' And 'Boston Band.'

Date: 2003-03-25 09:32 am (UTC)Actually, that Jim thing would be interesting...for, while I do like "Stress", I'm not sure I think of it as one of his best...except, of course, for humor value. My list of "best Jim" is quite long...but I think we'd have to define "best" before I could make the list specific.

Date: 2003-03-25 01:27 pm (UTC)A note on the discussions:
Honestly I don't think anyone was (or ever is) comfortable talking about that. I wonder why I bring it up sometimes? I think its to get to know people better, but sometimes I do cross the line. If I knew everything about you after knowing you for the past 10 years, we would be bored when in eachother's presence. I think we both know enough about each other to be friends, and not enough about eachother for things to be boring. We both know we don't tell everything, and we both understand there's a reason for that: it just never came up :P.

Date: 2003-03-25 02:26 pm (UTC)You're thinking of the end of Leslie's Fangirly Vid, and that was from Queer as Folk, I believe. I have near-no interest in QaF, strictly due to 'personal preferences,' if you will.
As for the discussion -- I think there may be someone somewhere who's not made uncomfortable by it, and I actually don't recall who started the dissuasion. It seemed to come naturally enough. Either way, it wasn't a topic I was interested in discussing, really, and that was my only true point.
And I don't expect you or anyone to really know 'who I am' -- I'm still trying to figure that out myself. My point there was that even Louis, the one guy not related to me who I've known longer than six years, doesn't know my every intricacy, and so I necessarily expect no one else to know me, either. Or something like that. It's not a bad thing, per se, just a fact.

Date: 2003-03-25 08:24 pm (UTC)Well put! very true, I think everyone is always trying to find out who they are, and friends are just people we bring along for the journey. "How can you know me if I don't know me?"

Date: 2003-03-25 09:17 pm (UTC)I would have to agree that figuring out who you are, and perhapse deciding who you want to be and then working to become him, are life-long goals. Friends, however, are not just there for the ride, but also help us define who we are, who we want to be, and who we become. A great deal can be told of a man by the company which he keeps.
