So, I've been thinking about this whole war thing...
And I haven't yet decided what I think...
Just a little bit ago, I made a tongue-in-cheek post wishing for world peace. And I'm all for it, myself -- as an Idealist, I believe we can, eventually, in an ideal world have peace. As it is right now, though, I'm not exactly sure how far we have to go to get there, nor am I sure of the means we should use. It could be argued that Communist Russia had national peace, but I wouldn't be one to stand by it. And, skimming over the Originator's post, it seems like the sort of hippy-ish group that tends to make me uncomfortable.
Don't get me wrong. Being that I have familiar ties all over the military, I stand to be affected much more than many people. And while I am, generally, of the opinion that soldiers are meant to fight, it's what they do, that's what they signed up for. But at the same time, one does have to question the justification and 'rightness,' for lack of a better word, of this War. Like I said, I haven't kept up enough to really know anything either way, but....
-shrugs-
One of these days I'm sure I'll make a post with a point.
I don't think today is that day.
Somehow, I think it's useful to say that I'm not against War itself. War, like Fire, is not intrinsically evil. Yes, it has a dark side, but it can also be a useful tool for Good. I am undecided, generally, on whether this war is worth it. There are arguments against pre-emptive defence (I still laugh at that), but... Well, from what I've ever heard of Hussein, and granted it may be tinged a darker shade than it actually is (that's what the media does) -- that standing, I think I can support the war until I'm shown otherwise.
Or something.
