I can be dangerous with a little knowlege. With a lot of knowlege...
Mel had told me her birthday, and when the given day rolled around I sent her a little 'happy birthday mel' e-mail. (By the way, Mel, I do hope you had a nice weekend, then. How did things pan out?) That was only the begining, though. I started work on her CD a few days prior, though I knew it wouldn't be done by her birthday, let alone SENT and RECIEVED before then.
So I took my time.

Firstly, hers was the first CD of mine to get Label-quality treatment. I got CD-labeling software for christmas, and printed off a Label and CD-case stuff. The label, a picture of the moon, came out nicely, as it was black-and-white. The case stuff, however, came out too light and overly-red. I even ditched my first FrontCover idea and went for another, which I was mostly pleased with. Still too light and too red.... The BackCover, a smoky-type picture that makes me hear Humphrey Bogart's voice everytime I see it, came out nicely, though.

The tracks pretty much chose themselves. The first part of them (in the creation, not the final order) were songs Mel herself had kindly opened me to -- Keri Noble, Angie Aparo, Lori Carson. They set the tone in and of themselves, and the other songs I plugged in merely followed their lead. I had quite a track listing before I was done, over 215%, and as such I had to refine exactly what I was getting across here.

Over all, the tracks are trance-like and semi-soothing. There's a grey tone to the disc, I think, almost angsty, but not quite dark. A bit hopeful at times, and it ends on a good note with 'The Luckiest' and 'Gravity of Love.' On a personal note, I put on tracks that I felt said something about me ( 'Shake the Disease,' 'In the Abscence of the Sun,' 'Walk on the Ocean') and songs that say something about the way I know Mel ('Swell,' 'Hear You Me,'). I also put in songs I think the two of us coiuld easily relate to ('Pretty Enough,' 'Mad World,' 'Have Youy Seen Me Lately'). And, of course, I chose to end the CD with 'Gravity of Love' because Mel told me but days before hand that it was her favorite song. To quote, "Nothing will ever beat that song for me."

Anyways, I think I like this CD so much because I'm so intimately connected to it. -nods- I think I put more of myself into this than any other CD I've ever done, and I've definately put alot of myself into a number of my CDs. Infact, I even broke my own Code and burned a second copy. I simply don't do that. I'm working on figuring out the Case stuff for mine, but I have a label -- I got Josh to Grey-scale a picture of Mel (which I got from Da Beff) for me.  I donno what Mel necessarily thinks of the idea of being on a CD, but I think it's quite fitting. And she has pretty eyes. -nods-

Much Love, Melissa!

Hee hee, yes, I actually have a few songs by The Tragically Hip, and it's actually due to you -- you'd mentioned them one time or another and so I went off to download some of their stuff. I rather like 'Throwing Off Glass.'

I like that song a good deal, too - one of my favorites of the ones I've heard by them. I like the Hip. My all-time favorite (thusfar) by them has to be "It's a Good Life if You Don't Weaken", though. ::nods:: Very good.

Very nice selection of songs, Andrew. It's nice to see Ben in there. That's a lovely song, too, one of my favorites of his solo album.

i listen to that CD too much. plays so well in the car, too. ::nods:: i'm in love with track 10, especially. the echo is just such a nice touch and damn, i love lifehouse. ♥

::grins:: so sad you're not really a girl, andrew. i'd have to marry you over that mix. ::giggles:: although there was an amusing moment where mom was complimenting you the other day while we were cooking... and she went to call you a boy, stopped herself and said you weren't a boy..

and i BUSTED up because the only thing i could think of was b. spears song... ::ahem:: not a boy... not yet a woman! ... (honestly, i feel bad that so many lesbian jokes and ooooh, andrew's a girl! comments get made. i'm sure it gets old... so take all my jesting with a grain of salt. i'm just teasing you. i do that. ^__~)

love!
