I burnt this CD in anticip[ation of the car-ride tomarrow. I'm considering complementing it with a Techno CD, as well. In anycase, this CD (set?) is meant, as I told Leslie, to "impress the minds of the impressionable" - to put it simply, I'm driving a number of guys to Nekocon, and I wanted to give them a nice taste of some Classic Rock. Savatage and Queensryche are two of my favorite bands, which is why they show up the most.

Styx and Queen do a few REALLY good songs, but they have a feel to them that's not quite what I'm looking for, most of the time. Sprincled in are a few other Classical Rock and Classica Rock-sounding bands, such as Guns and Roses and Megadeth. Paradise Lost is actually not even what I could call "Classical Rock-sounding" bu that one song is really kinda good, and it's close enough (and early enough, I think) that it can fit. I don't know that it would work as well as track 5, and definately not track 12. Pink Floyd actually has a number of songs I like, including Mother, which I first heard played to an Evangelion AMV. I'm quite fond of "Another Brick In The Wall," though there's a few seconds of helicopter sounds in the beginning, which bothers me, and so it didn't make the Disc.

Notable on this CD is This Isn't What We Meant, by Savatage. Again, I first heard this song to an Evangelion AMV - one of the best, in my opinion. In either case, it was that AMV that got me into Savatage; I fell in love with the song, and that led me to find more of their stuff, and now they are one of my top five favoirite bands. It's of stylistic note that it hit Track 9, which is almost half-way on the CD. Typically, I've put it at or just before the end of the CD, as I think it makes a powerful finisher. I paired it with Mother, since the two of them have AMV ties, initially, and they got plugged in the middle because I already had a beginning and an ending. I think they make a nice transition.
Of similar note is "Chance," which is arguable my favorite Savatage Song. It cemented my love for Savatage, and actually set a bit of my tastes for Classic Rock. I love what they do with their voices in that song.
Father, this is not how it was meant to be. I am safe and so are you, as for the other's destiny..?

As a final note, The Show Must Go On also has an anecdote to it. I watched Moulin Rouge, and absolutely LOVED the music - mostly because I knew the songs, but also because of the way they performed it all - mixing and splicing it all (The Love Medely was grand, but I LOVE the way that they did Tango De Roxanne - ESPECIALLY with Ewin's part). In anycase, there's that scene with Zidler climbing the stairs, and he says "On and on, does anybody know what we are living for? Another hero, another mindless crime, behind the curtain, in the pantomime" and I was enthralled by it. I was further sickened when it wasn't on the Soundtrack! But one day, looking for Queen songs (as my brother loves Queen) I ran into it. it wasn't until I started listening to it that I wal like "DUDE, this is THE SONG!" It was grand. and it makes a nice finishger for the CD, too, I think.

Ewan's part in Tango is one of my FAVOURITE parts of the movie. Actually, his voice is perfect for singing. Him singing "Beyond The Sea" (one of my all-time favourite oldie songs) on A Life Less Ordinary is darling. But the dramatic tones in Moulin Rouge are amazing (and quite swoon-worthy).

Oh, yeah. I found a good copy of "Hush", if ever you want it. And yeah, the part that reminded me of you...

/...There's a moment lost in time
When she says 'hush
I'm on your side
It's just the two of us
You know that I
You know I'll never say goodbye..'

She smiles for me
It don't mean a thing
It don't take away the way it was before
I'm foolish and grown
I should've known
Her's was a world made for just one throne../
