More Con Goodness

Work was OK, but sucked for the simple fact that I was intimately aware that all seven hours could have been spent at an Anime Convention.
When I got over there after work, Louis was talking with some guys he met while firting with a couple girls (weirder things have happened) and we went t'Wendy's t'get some food. We went to a panel on making Anime Music Videos (the Doki Doki guy was there, along with some other greats). From there we went to see the CosPlay, which started out good... But it was alright. While the judges were voting on that is when we saw the AMV Award Winners -
but I'll get to that in a moment.
After the awards for the AMVs and CosPlay, we congradulated some new friends of ours on winning awards (in particular Jaime, Red's friend, who dressed as Gabrille from Angel Sancuary) and bumped into the two girls Louis had been flirting with - Mint and Sarah. What can I say, Louis has good tastes. We then went to congradulate another girl who dressed up as the Rabbit-girl from DigiCharat, and since Louis knew the guy she was standing with, we got into a conversation with him, her, and her sister - her sister who was quite pretty, if a bit quiet.
After chatting for a while with them, we muddled about, rather avoiding the dance as Louis and I were convinced we couldn't. Then The Sister came by, and I cracked under pressue (OK, she just asked why we weren't dancing...) and while Louis found himself a nice, safe panel, I joined the Sister, The Rabbit, The Dude, and Mike (Programming dude from last night) in the Dance. Leslie would have been proud - even as the girls went in and out over and over again, I stayed and danced as well as I ever did - compared to Mike and the Dude, I felt pretty confident (I mean, common, mike was dancing DDR steps...) Techno - Cause White Guys Gotta Dance, Too.
After an hour, however, the dance kinda slimmed down quite a bit, and when my group had gone from 2-3 to The Dude and me dancing, I ditched out and joined Louis in his panel, which was actually AMV Weakest Link. Vic was hosting, and they had all the Legends up front asking anime and AV-geek related trivia from How Many RPMs does a DVD Running in CRV Get to How Many Panty Shots Were In The First Episode of [Some Random Anime]. By the by, the answer was 122, if anyone was wondering. Louis was sitting with Jaime, who was a really cool girl, and reminded me alot of both Beth (more so) and Rae (at times). As the panel had degraded to below the level of Celebrity Jeopardy, the three of us decided to check out the first hour of Anime MST3K.
On our way up, we bumped into Red, who we learned was really Becky. Just a random thought. The MST3K was an Anime called "A Wind Named Amnesia," and it was quite bad. The MST3King was alright, when you could hear the comments being made. it was quite an odd Anime, and I would highly suggest it for anyone who's having an MST3K night or something.
As a last note on the Con, some quotes:
You can't be a FanBoy unless you have Money
Yaoi - cause that's the sound they make.
She doesn't have issues - she has subscriptions.
And I guess that's about it. I'm so incredibly psyched about Neko, now! I've kinda been like 'eh' about it - I mean, I've been looking forward to going, but I haven't been really excited excited about it. After getting to this Con, and seeing just a taste of whot a Con really is again, I'm stoked. The coolest people go to Cons, and it's such a blast! In two days I've made friends with some half-dozen people, a few of which are sure you show up at Neko, as well. and at Neko, we'll have a ROOM, so I won't have to leave in the middle of MST3K! It's gonna be cool.
But, I have t'get up for work again t'morrow, and seeing as it's 2:34, I should get to bed. Until next time...!
Oh, yes, the AMV Awards. You prolly wanted to hear about those.
Louis put in his vid, Angel Sanctuary - Chop Suey. I've seen it a dozen times, and told him it's great. Anyone who's ever seen it has told him it was great. He entered it anfd was afraid he'd bomb, and even after seeing the full conmtest, figured he'd get second in his category, at best.
The way they did it was they had some 5 or six categories. Each category got a 'Best' winner, then there was the Best for the whole Contest (as picked by the judges) and then there was the Viewer's Choice.
There were some awsome videos - an Utena Movie one that makes me REALLY, REALLY want to see it again (just imagine how great the vid must've been, ne?). There were a few DBZ ones (though the Kung Fu Fighting wasn't bad) and then just some really cool sounding ones that I didn't recognize the anime (surprise surprise). There was alot going on with Giant Robo, too.
Anyways, Louis got first place in his category. It was like "This by him, That by VicBond007, and Chop Suey by Louis K." And so everyone cheers (especially me, being his biggest fan there, I'm sure) and I'm going "I know that guy! w00+!" He goes up, gets his award, and they play his vid - which I simply love, and it's thanks to Louis that I like Chop Suey as much as I do. ^__^
But wait, there's more - we went through and Mint's Boyfriend won his, and Vic got one (if not two) awards, and then... Louis won Viewer's Choice! Out of ALL the vids they showed, the masses chose Louis's vid as the one they liked the most! I was even more exstatic than the first time, and we went up and got another award, and then everyone called to see his Vid again, and they showed it, and it was just too flipping cool. ^___^ Louis later said that he would have been fine getting second in his category, but Viewer's Choice is the REAL prize - that's what every AMVer aims for. It was so cool. So cool.
So, yeah, that was really awsome. And now I'm going to collapse.
P.S. Maybe it's all this talk of AMVs and such, but coimming home I was listening to Kick Some Ass by Stroke 9, and I was like "dude, this'd be so cool as a vid set to Shinji." So, yeah, if I stick with it, and Louis shows me all this weird AV-Geek stuff, maybe I'll make a vid, too. It could be fun.

Date: 2002-10-13 11:15 am (UTC)The Trigun video I just finished is probably the best example of editing I can do with my limited capacities...I would really like to send it to OhayoCon (I think I missed Neko's deadline), but I'm really scared. I dunno if people will appreciate my vids for what they have and still be willing to ignore what they don't have (ie, totally clear footage).
