Nothing big.

So, yesterday two things happened.
I have had an ingrown toenail for, well, probably as long as most of you have known me. Back in highschool, we went an got it looked at and operated on, and it seemed to be all fine and dandy. They said it wouldn't come back and we believed them. Unfortunately, they lied. During my four years at college, though I'm not sure which of the four, my nail decided to become ingrown again. Being that I didn't really have the time or motivation to do anything about it (after all, it wasn't getting infected, and it only hurt when you dropped things on it, like m&ms or printer paper </exaggeration>), I let it go for at least a year or two.
The point is, I scheduled an appointment for yesterday to get my toe looked at, as their modus operandi is to look at it and then refer you to some local podiatrist who is then allowed to work on it. It's a bureaucratic insurance thing. But, I went in yesterday and, after looking at it, they said, "we've got a guy here who's done a thousand of these, and he'll just take it out right now." And so he did. For those who care, I had a spur roughly 1/3 the size of my visible nail digging in under my toe. Mmmm-mmm.
And I saw Batman Begins. Before I go any further, I just like to say that I'm a huge Batman fanatic. For a long time, Batman has been my favorite Superhero. The reasons for this are many -- his dark past, inner demons, kick-ass fighting -- but in the end it's really because Batman is human. He doesn't have super powers, or high-tech power-armor, x-ray vision or invisibility or granite skin or super strength. He's just a man who's trained himself to be the best so he can do what's right. Batman is awesome.
I loved the original Batman, circa 1980s. I had a few gripes, usually when they tried to lighten the mood, but I liked it. Unfortunately, the sequels kinda ruined it. Batman Returns always just seemed a bit... strange to me, which is unfortunate as I've always liked Catwoman. Batman Forever (in which they introduced Robin was a real disappointment, especially since both the Riddler and Two Face (but mostly Riddler) are much cooler villains than they were made out to be. Batman and Robin (in which they introduce Batgirl, who's not related to Gordon, I might add) was just plain bad. Which makes me cry, because Mr. Freeze was a VERY cool (no pun intended) villain, and Ivy had a lot of possibilities. The movie made me loathe Uma Thurman for years, though, and they COMPLETELY ruined Bane, the Man who broke the Bat. Schwarzenegger can not and should not do comedy. Ever.
That all having been said, I loved Batman Begins. It is quite probably the single best movie I've seen in a decade. I had a few gripes, usually when they tried to lighten the mood, but I liked it. I decided that they must be drawing heavily from the Batman: The Animated Series, and if they are, they're brilliant; B:tAS is an amazingly popular series. I liked Crane's character a lot, though I wish more screen-time had been given to Scarecrow. Crane himself had plenty of screenplay, though, and it was great. I think, though, I'd have to agree with my dad in that the best thing about the movie was that it humanized Batman. It showed him weak and scared and angry and vengeful. And it had such wonderfully quotable lines! "I won't kill you, but I don't have to save you." one thing that's been bugging me, though... I know Ras and Crane and Lucius and Gordon (who was a Sargent! It was great!), but who's this Rachel girl? Did they just pull her out of nowhere? Either way, I loved it. It's one movie I really hope they make sequels to.
