jackofallgeeks: (Fail At Evil)
This has been sitting in my buffer since the beginning of the week (or was it the end of last week), when [livejournal.com profile] circuit_four passed it along. It is, in fact, a thread on the Something Awful boards, a place I've never experienced personally but which has a reputation for being, well, awful.

This thread, though, doesn't fit that reputation. Someone ran into a homeless kid somewhere and gave him a traditional film camera (ie, not digital) with the condition that the kid take pictures and then send the film back to him. Kid could keep the camera. Apparently the guy never expected to hear back from the kid until the day the film was delivered to his door, no explanation or anything with the pictures. Some of them are really pretty interesting.

And the most striking thing, from my perspective? How un-awful the whole thing was, even the comments on the thread. Maybe I've been unjustly biased? I find that hard to believe, though...

Though there are some poke-y bits I might have to discuss a bit, I think I general agree with this blog post.

My favorite line, a line I can really latch onto, is this: I know that I sound more than a little cynical, but I maintain that I am not. What I am is a fan of real, whole love. Love that makes everyone in it better, not just vaguely happier for a while.

Well, the first two make sense, in a way; I have bad vision. I've had glasses since 5th grade, but I probably had trouble well before then, so would tend away from relying on my vision too much. The second bit is interesting because, as a lefty, my right-brain should be more dominant; at least to some extent that's what being left-handed implies. Their summary does fit me pretty well, though, particularly the bit about experiencing conflict between what I think and what I feel, and favoring what I think:
