I talked with my friend Genie earlier today, which was nice.
She said she's engaged to be married in the next two years.
I'm trying to be happy for her, cause really, that's great news for her.
It's not so great news for the boy who has a crush on her, though.
It's just a little crush, I'll get over it, but it's still a disappointment.

I just sent of my email to Meghan basically saying "yeah, it's not going to work between us."
Which meant bringing the whole "give up your friends" and "own your wife" bits to the front of my mind again.
I'm so furious, I'm gritting my teeth so hard they hurt even when I'm consciously trying to relax.

Mirrormask

So, yes, I saw Mirrormask yesterday. I found a listing of it at a local theatre with showings at 5:10 and 9:30 last night and tonight, and in short order my friend Laurel (the only person I know here not from school) and I were off to see it.

I loved that movie. It started off so strangely. Like, so strange. But I loved it. They were very right to associate it with Labyrinth and The Dark Crystal, even aside from the Jim Henson ties. It was the same pseudo-dark fantasy type, and on about the same age level as Labyrinth was -- even though I loved it, there were a couple points when I though, "this would be better if I were watching it with my little sisters." And there were a couple points that felt weak to me (including at least one instance where it was pretty much preaching to the audience, which I generally consider poor form regardless of medium -- you show, you don't tell -- and I would have expected better of Gaiman).

But I loved the story, and I loved the world, and I loved the British accents.
And I love the name 'Helena,' who's actress reminded me of a girl I used to know, Emily.

And that scene with the robots singing "Close to You"...? So weird, but I loved it.
Loved it.
