So, here I am, visiting Monterey.

I got in yesterday at about 12:45, after a long day of flying, and about 20 minutes later than I'd planned. Because of that, I missed the Jazz festival and instead just headed to Jeremy's place, where I'm staying this weekend. While there, his buddy Ken showed up, and we grabbed another guy, Jason, and went out for Korean food. Specifically, we went to this noodle-place called "Pho King", 'pho' being the Korean Noodle Soup stuff we ate. It was fun stuff.

We got back to Jeremy's place in time for me to meet Dan, Jeremy's room-mate, and take a several-hour nap on their couch. After waking up, we went over to John and Jody's place, an engaged couple here at the school, for a little pool party -- the table, not the water. Ken and Jason showed up, including a few other guys from Jeremy's class and another prospective student and Nick and Holly, a married couple. John was mixing drinks, and Ken was a pool shark, and Jody had made wonderful Devil's Food cupcakes. We were also told to quiet down by one of the neighbors -- which is funny, seeing as we weren't being loud, it was 9:00 on Saturday night, and the guy lived all the way across the apartment complex.

We got back 'home' at about 11:00 cause everyone'd had a long day, and I was in bed between 12:00 and 1:00.

Got up this morning at about 9:30 when Zach called. "Dude, it's after noon!" he says. "Dude, I'm in California." I reply. Walked from here to Church, which was grand -- the weather was great out, and my path took me through a little park and by a cemetery. Monterey is beautiful, with trees and green, unlike San Diego's browns, and I'm told the weather is always relatively cool, and sometimes rainy. The building was smallish, and I'm not sure I liked some little details about the place and their service, but it was alright. After that, Jeremy, Dan, and Jason took me out to Jack-in-the-Box for lunch, which is a fast food place out here. I haven't seen one in years, let alone eaten there, so it was pretty cool. Then Dan drove us out down 17-Mile Drive, which swings around Pebble Beach Golf Course. That was a nice drive. We got back to the apartment and fudged around a bit until the Beach Party at 5:00.

Rachel called me here, from England. -smiles- I sent her a long email about how I'm doing and stuff. It was really good to write to her like that again. I miss her terribly.

The beach party was good; Jody and John were there, along with me, Jeremy, and Dan. There were other guys there too, a few prospective students, and Tanya, who's in charge of the whole thing. We built a fire, meaning that I built a fire, cause it seems I was the only one there who knew how to handle one. It was good to do that again. I really like fire. I breathed a lot of smoke, and got more in my eyes, but I like fire. There was also a girl there, Heather, who's going to Some Other School here, with a degree in Theatre (I guess) and working on pre-med requirements so she can be a trauma surgeon. She was really funny (which may not say much, coming from me, but we had some witty banter) and, unlike almost everyone else I've met this weekend, she'll actually BE here when I get in. It'd be nice if I could keep in touch with her.

After the party, Dan, Jeremy, and I went back to their place and watched "Catch Me If You Can," which was a really cool movie. Dramatized, I'm sure, but I think I like these "Based on a True Story" things.

I got an email back from Suzannah today. She'd run out of Contra last Sunday looking upset, and I wrote her an email just to say I was concerned and hoped she was alright. And I apologized for breaking my promise in doing so. She wrote and said not to worry about breaking the promise, and that she'd just been sick and shouldn't have been at Contra in the first place, and did I get into Monterey? I wrote back and told her I did get in, though I'd wanted to tell her in person but never got the chance. She sent a very short note back to that, simply saying that it was wonderful news and that she was very happy for me. -smile-
My heart aches.

And I guess I expected the comments I got on my last (real) post. Or the ones I didn't get, to be more specific. My, but this feels like a passive-aggresive little line...
