Philosophy Paper
Dec. 16th, 2004 02:48 pmSo, we had a second paper in Philosophy due last week. Our professor gave us a list of suggested topics, each more-or-less a comparison between two texts, one on Medieval philosophy and one on phenomenology. The list consisted of five topics, the last two bracketed off with the caveat: "For the more ambitious, here are two more-difficult topics." Say what you will, but of the five, the one that interested me the most was one of those two, specifically "Compare owen's argument that there are concepts with Sokolowski's argument for the elimination of meanings as mental or conceptual things."
I just got that paper back, and I got an A. *does a little dance* I think this professor may be an easier grader than other philosophy professors (many of whom begin the semester with "I do not give A's"), but still, w00+. That was a fun topic to roll around, and the fact that I got a great score on a topic he thought was more-difficult. *continues dancing*
Biology exam tomorrow, Philosophy exam on Saturday, and then I'm home for break and the semester is over.
As an update on my Senior Design Fiasco: never heard back from the Dean (no surprise there), never gave a presentation to the department, and the only word we got from our 'adviser' was "I'm assigning you all B+ for the semester." And yes, I am complaining about that -- grades are nigh-meaningless to me, almost utterly subjective and of no real value in the end. Sure, B+ is nice, and it'll get me passed for the course, and I'll get out of here on time, but the fact of the matter is that he didn't even consider our work before assigning the grade (in fact, he threw away all of our work) and we have accomplished NOTHING in this course. Less than nothing. It irritates me, and I will not be placated with the academic equivalent of "here's a cookie; leave me alone, kid."
But I have video games to play...
