Weekend Update
Aug. 9th, 2004 08:59 amSo, after work on Friday, I went down to Campus to help Rose move out of the dorms -- they kick everyone out for a few weeks, ostensibly for cleaning, but I suspect just for sadism's sake. Since I got out of work at 4:00 and she wouldn't be on campus before 6:00, I sat out in the sun and the air and took some time to write. As I mentioned, nothing amazing, just stitching together a few notes into something of an opening. I don't know how pleased I am with it, and I certainly didn't write enough to feel productive.
She had a lot less stuff to move than I'd expected, and by 7:30 we were sitting in Wendy's having dinner. I was home easily before sunset. The next day, I missed a call from Trevor, but he left a message thanking me for helping Rose move. I thought it was a rather odd thing, him thanking me. I guess because I did it for her sake, not his; he was the farthest thing from my mind in the whole ordeal.
Saturday was spent doing something, most of which I think was burning CDs, with a nap or two included. I managed to burn off CDs entitled "Female Vocals", "Angeles", "Suffering", and "Wallow", and started on "Anger" and "Club Elsewhere". Since Maggie has a CD player but no tapedeck (and so no way to hook up my mp3-player) I've taken to burning CDs again. I'm rather pleased with "Angeles" and "Suffering", but haven't listened to the other yet. I also found my Mitch Hedburg CD.
Dad had to level a plot of ground for the generator we're putting in -- all out waterworks are on pumps, so losing power would be bad, generally. This meant lifting and moving heavy cinder-block stones which he made a retaining wall out of, and then dumping some 40 square-feet of dirt. My side and back are still complaining, though only mildly.
Sunday went well. About an hour before I left to head North and meet Suzannah, I hopped Online and saw my old buddy, Jean, on AIM. I thought to say Hi, as we haven't chatted in easily 3 years. The last time I saw her, I was helping her buy a mini-fridge for her dorm-room, just before Freshman Year. That was a lifetime ago. But we chatted a bit, and exchanged emails, and I'm rather excited to be getting back in touch with her; I hope it sticks. I plan on writing her an email later on and catching her up on my life for the last three years.
Similarly, I got back in touch with another friend, Emily (not the one you all have ever heard of). It's been at least as long since I talked with her, but she still remembered me, which is a nice thing. I'm really rather fond of my friends.
At about 5:00 I got to Suzannah's, where they were just finishing up dinner. She invited me in, and set me a plate of roast, potatoes, and cabbage. It was nice and appreciated. From there we went to the Brookside Gardens and walked around a bit, then sat by a small lake (where there were no other people around) and chatted about random stuff, antiques and New England and life... -smiles- We ran out to Rockville for "The Village", and got there with plenty of time to catch the previews. We even got really nice center seats. She also confessed that she scared easily, so we were both in good company. Except that I'd already seen it once -- when I told her this (after the movie, of course), she called me a little sneak, and said that if I were one of her brothers, she would pull my hair. This amused me. I asked if she would have objected if I'd told her in the first place that I'd seen it, and she said she wouldn't have but that it was more fun this way, anyhow. -grins-
She said she liked it, but more for the little things than the actual plot itself. She was far more clever than I -- she was sure that ( Short Spoiler Text ). As I said, far more clever than I. I was taken in from the very beginning, all the way to the very end. Oh well.
After the movie we talked for a bit, at first about the movie, then we got some coffee (or rather, I got coffee, she wasn't interested) and sat outside of Barnes & Noble chatting about stuff. It turns out Suzannah has a credit card, and even used it online. "Yes, Andrew Portner, I've used it." -laughs- This amused me. I mentioned that I'd been at my uncle's alone for the last two weeks, and she was surprised I didn't check the closets every night! It's a good thing my uncle and his family came back last night, 'cause she got me really frightened by the thought. -laughs-
I got her home at about 10:20, and she insisted on paying me the price of the ticket. Then she went inside, and I drove back to my Uncle's. All in all, it was a really nice night.
And hopefully that night can get me through the week until Alyce's party! I so don't want to be here at work.
(Oh, right -- several weeks ago when we went to see my cousins dance, Grandma took a picture of Suzannah and I, which came out really nicely. But she still hasn't set me a copy, Gah! I'll be sure to get it before the end of next week -- I should be seeing her at the beach, I think -- and I'll post it once I get some server-space, cause I know you all care so much.)
Oh, and I woke up this morning to my uncle's alarm, at 5am, blaring talk radio. *sigh* I'd almost trade back for the empty nights if it meant more peacful mornings... And I ache all over.
