jackofallgeeks: (Fail At Evil)
This could have been my LiveJournal Theme Song about a year ago. I like it.

It was hard to say if more or less birds flew during sunset. Navigating the twilight cityscape was quite often a fatal prospect. Between dark monoliths of steel and stone and glass, with the sinking sun caught in a thousand different different perspectives, the ones who could best guess at truth would thrive.

I did some actual writing today. Nothing magnificent, really; little more than just threading a few notes I've had laying around into something of a beginning, a re-framing for my story. I want to write a story about good, evil, truth, faith, and perspective in a world shaped by belief. Or something.

But I need my protagonist to wake up to the supernatural reality of things, and that's the biggest hitch. I don't know how to do it, how to set him up, how to make the unbelievable believable. Then I need him to find The Others (those also aware of the supernatural, though in slightly skewed perspectives), and his Mentor needs to die, and I need a villain to set him against, something to move the story along until I can play more with perspectives and truth. Or something.

I have characters, with backgrounds, and relationships and personalities. I could drop them all in and stir the pot and see what happens, but I need a set up. I need to introduce my protagonist to the real world before I can introduce him to The Others, which is when all the fun starts. And I need his mentor there to wake him, but I need him gone so he doesn't fudge things with my play of ideas. And I need a villain to stir it all up and make things happen. But I want some mundane scenes and events, too. Or something.

Maybe i'll figure it out. Bed, now.
