I was going to write a Snippet, but I'm getting tired, and so I don't trust myself to attempt artwork.
Instead, I think I'm going to try working on that paper of mine.

Happy Valentine's Day to you all. May it remind you of all that you have.

I've always thought that Valentine's day was really quite ridiculous. I mean, what good is it? At worst, it's one more grossly commercialized 'holiday' designed to get merchants that extra revinue they need to really turn a profit. At best, it's an excuse for us to tell those we care about how we feel. And what does it say about us as a people if we need an excuse to tell those we love that we love them?

Most of the time, I'm afraid I'm too affectionate. When I think about it it occurs to me how ridiculous a concept that is -- we all need and want love -- but still, I find myself constantly telling the same people over and over that they mean alot to me, and I can't help but feel I'm tiresome at some point.

Recently, I've been bummed about this day. You see, today, I am a statistic. One more single guy in a world of single guys. I'm part of a great brotherhood of The Alone, no more than another tally on a sheet somewhere. Granted, most of my life has been spent in this company, so it should be nothing to me. And yet I can't help but find myself lamenting all those things which I do not have. For couples, the day is dedicated to reminding them of the love they share. For the single, the day is dedicated to reminding them of the love they lack.

I'm glad I have the friends I do, else I would still be stuck in that mentality. Not so, thanks to a dear friend pointing out the fact that Valentine's Day should be a positive holiday, spent reflecting on those we care about. Even if it's nothing but another comercial holiday, we can make mean more by remembering the friends and family we have, and everything else that we hold dear. Valentine's Day should be about Love, she said, and it reminded me that Love is not always Romantic.

And so I wish you four ladies, my dearest of friends, a happy Valentine's Day. Know that around here somewhere, you always have a friend you can depend on, and someone who loves you. You're all more special to me than I can express, and most assuredly more meaningful than you imagine.

May your day be bright and un-soured.
