What the <edit>?! Pardon my language, but what the <edit>!?
The NEA - National Education Association (from my understanding, the people in charge of setting national cirriculums) has recently posted a notice on how they want teachers to "teach" September 11th. They want teachers to explain that 9-11 was commited by 'generic' terrorists (that is, not any one group, just 'terrorists') and the motivation was 'American Intollerance.'
What the HELL...?! Has it not even been a year? Can not everyone living in this country REMEMBER September 11th - won't we ALL remembers EXACTLY where we were when we first heard about this? HOW MANY Americans died in those crashes? And the NEA now wants to say it was OUR fault, cause we're so damn intollerant!? Not only that, they want us to believe it was just 'terrorists' - some nameless, faceless boogieman. Heaven forbid we offend anyone...
I'll be the first to say America isn't perfect. In fact, I'd be hard pressed to come up with even a conceptual country that could be perfect. But I think the fact remains that we are ONE OF THE MOST TOLERANT Nations in the world, if not THE most tolerant. Do you REALIZE how many cultures America encompasses? The sheer diversity of traditions - from New Years in New York to Mardi gras in Mississippi and onwards is quite amazing if you look at it. Do you FURTHER realize that in some Middle East countries, women are stoned and beaten to death, even today, for being 'uncovered' outside? American intolerance, indeed.
Further more, we know FOR A FACT that is was a group of radical Islamics from Afghanistan who attacked us. They weren't non-national 'terrorists' - they weren't even German or Russian or Indonesian. We KNOW they were Afghani, so WHAT is the point of erasing the blame put on them? No, the attacks don't make all Afghani the enemy, but tell me what the sense is in denying the truth - THE TRUTH - about what happened on September 11th?
Words fail me, and I'm sure I've made quite a mess of my point. But how can we trust the NEA at all when they blatantly falsify events which we all remember? Is THIS the way to commemorate all those innocent lives lost in those attacks?
