News flash: dirty song lyrics promote sex!
I haven't read this article yet, but the title makes me wince and go, "we didn't know this?"

I think they have cause and effect a little mixed up. They think that kids who listen to dirty music makes them have sex at a younger age, when it just as likely that they listen to dirty music because they're the people willing to have sex at a younger age.

Nope, I would disagree with you. While it's true that you can't really say very much about causality in a study like this -- you can't really say that listening to dirty music causes dirty behavior and not vice versa -- I think there's fairly strong reasoning behind it. Music affects us. At the very least lewd lyrics give kids ideas, and repeated listening bombards them with ideas, not unlike TV. You can't really help but be influenced by that sort of exposure.

Of course, I'm against the idea that, along similar lines, violent video games cause violent behavior, but I think there's a difference to be drawn. Video games are fake; music isn't. Music isn't written or sung the way video games are designed and played. You write and sing to speak truths. Aside from that, the video game corollary to your argument would be that violent people are the ones who play violent video games, which I don't think is the case at all -- I regularly play violent video games, and I hardly consider myself the violent sort.

I think their right that inappropriate lyrics contribute towards inappropriate behavior (I might even go so far as to agree that violent music increases violent tendencies, maybe); I'm surprised that it took them so long to realize it.

I was watching the news the other day and they said that. I was just like finally they figured that out!
