Yeah its a shakespear thing... though I think she meant it in a flattering way.

In Romeo and Juliet, Mercutio called Tybalt a "Price of Cats", reffering to the idea that he was less-than-noble I guess. I guess its a play on word cause tybalt is a common name for cats at the time, or something like that. But anyway, Tybalt is Juliet's cousin, and he kills Mercutio. Romeo in turn, kills Tybalt. So I guess maybe she thinks of you as her cousin?

BENVOLIO

you sing prick-song, keeps time, distance, and
proportion; rests me his minim rest, one, two, and
the third in your bosom: the very butcher of a silk
button, a duellist, a duellist; a gentleman of the
very first house, of the first and second cause:
ah, the immortal passado! the punto reverso! the
hai!

There may be a few various interpretations for this term. It may have come from the famous Persian fencer, also named Tybalt also named Prince of Cats. Or it was a sexual slur (from an Italian word similar to cats) which Shakespeare is certainly known to put all over the place. But most likely, it is a reference to his skill of fighting, because everything else dexcribed in that passage from Mercutio is all about different fight moves (i.e. I used a punto reverso in my SPT fight last year. It's a fun move).

So, I'm not sure what the connection Suzannah has made is... possibly just that you like cats. :-)

It's quite simple, really... Suzannah, it seems, likes epithets, and early on she was trying to think of one for me. I mewed in a letter or two, and she said she'd thought of the perfect one, from Romeo and Juliet. Though I can't follow much of Mercutio's ramblings (he's quite loquacious, no?), the phrase "a gentleman of the very first house, of the first and second cause" seems to imply good things. I know Tybalt kills him, but until then, what's his opinion of what's his opinion of Juliet's cousin?

By nature of the two battling sides in this show, Mercutio isn't terribly fond of Tybalt, since he is Romeo's best friend. Romeo is a Montague, and Tybalt is a Capulet... so they aren't apt to get along. The monologue here (and yes, he talks alot... but he has some of the best lines in the show, and is certainly one of the top 3 characters in my opinion), as I've seen it done a few times, is very playful, jeering. It's as if they are taunting him, even though he's not there. And yes, I believe some of the stuff could be compliments. If you really want to know more, I could ask Gina. She is certain to know... she's only directed or acting in the show... oh, a gajillion times.

But yeah, I'd say Prince of Cats for you simply refers to your strange utterings and your fondness for cats. ;-)
