I haven't had the time or energy these last few weeks to read much net.news, let alone post about it, but I'm always glad to hear that The RIAA is floundering. In short, judges and lawyers are starting to put up roadblocks against the RIAA's subpoenas, including finally calling into question the validity of the RIAA's "identification" methods. If the courts start showing some technical saavy and understanding, I'll be very happy.

While I'm in favor of businessmen and recording artists making an honest buck, I'm quite convinced that the RIAA's current tactics are basically semi-directed courtroom muggings against people who may or may not be the actual perpetrators. I don't think the RIAA actually cares whether the defendants are guilty or not. They're trying to get big settlements to a) make money and b) scare everybody else into compliance.
