those, and even more so Vertigo after reading about it, are exactly what I need to see. The only thing I know I've seen with him is It's A Wonderful Life
If you haven't seen Vertigo or Rear Window, you've never really seen James Stewart.
Actually, I must endorse most of the films on that list. For all its feel-good message, Mr. Smith Goes To Washington is actually quite harrowing, and made all the moreso by Stewart's impassioned and painful performance. It's difficult to watch the protagonist's gradual physical and emotional breakdown as the world beats against him until his principles are all he has left.
That's the impression that I got. And as maddness (and all the little implications thereof, such as being sane in a made world) is one of the (many) things that fascinates me, I think I'm really missing out on something here. This will all be rectified as soon as possible.
Ohhhhh, I concur with that entire comment. Jimmy Stewart is amazing - Rear Window and Mr. Smith Goes to Washington are two of my favorite films of all time.
