Looking for Music

So, my little sister Becky likes my music. and, being me, I encourage this, usually by burning CDs. Now, the fact that her most requested song is "Almost Human" by Voltaire (lyrics below) kinda bugs me; it's alright for me, at 22, but she's only 8. It shouldn't resonate with her. Anyways, she's requested that I make her a new CD, but this time she has requests.

I gave up 'illicit' file sharing a couple years ago, mostly because the networks were generally sucking. This turns out to be a good thing, actually, in that my current and prospective employers frown upon such activities. So, I signed up to Napster, and it actually hasn't been that bad. A little fee, and some songs must be purchased rather than simply downloaded, but they let you listen to the song (or a clip of it in a few cases), and it's reasonably easy to search. So I'm liking it -- and as I said before, I've no problem paying $1 for a song if you let me get the songs I want.

But, now that I have legitimate means, I'm looking for suggestions from you all as to bands or songs I should check out. If it helps, a small list of bands I like would include Assemblage 23, VNV Nation, Cruxshadows, Queensryche, Savatage, The Decemberists, Porcupine Tree, Muse, and others along those lines. I like sad songs, but if any of you have happy songs (or happy-like songs) to suggest, I've quite a deficiency in those.

And, as a note, Lindsay Lohan kinda sucks as a singer. And she really sucks as a blond. (My sister made me get her songs for her CD.)

Almost Human by Voltaire

What did I ever do to you that you should treat me this way? Is it really such a crime for an angel to speak his mind? In time I'll try to shed some light... If I were a big boy I wouldn't cry, but since I'm not a big boy I'll have to cry...

What did I ever do so wrong that you should cast me from grace? Though I love to rule in hell, here, how I miss the taste of heaven, its soft and cool embrace. If I were a big boy I wouldn't cry, but since I'm not a big boy I'll have to close my eyes and picture what's it's like.

I'm just like you, I'm made by He, despised by they, I'm almost me. I'm nearly human, look at me, I'm almost a human being.
I'm just like you, I'm made by He, despised by they, I'm almost me. I'm nearly human. Pity me, I'm almost a human being.

I still remember your light, and it was streaming down and burning out my eyes. If I were a big boy I wouldn't cry, but since I'm not a big boy I'll have to close my eyes and picture what it's like.

I'm just like you, I'm made by He, despised by they, I'm almost me. I'm nearly human, look at me, I'm almost a human being.

There tears are real. I'm jealousy, I'm spite and hate, to the core I'm mean. I'm nearly human, look at me, I'm almost a human being.
I'm just like you, better than He, to hell with they, I'm almost me. I'm nearly human. Pity me, I'm almost a human being.

Don't touch me, oh, I couldn't bear the thought of it, now. Don't touch me, oh, I couldn't bear the strength.
Don't touch me, oh, I couldn't bear the thought of it, now. Touch me, touch me, touch me. Don't touch me, touch me, touch me.

Well, for the most part this is all meant for me, not her; mentioning her at all was simply an explanation as to why I finally got a Napster account (I'm fine with buying mp3s, as I've said before, but never went ahead with it until now). I'm a little bit more careful as to what songs I give my sister; that she heard and liked 'Almost Human' was more-or-less an accident, and not something I would have given her otherwise. Likewise, she's erequested a Country song called "Nothing On But The Radio," which is pretty much about what you might think it's about, though I'm not sure she knows that. I'm fairly certain that I'm "not going to find it."

And yeah, I'd be interested in listening to some of those tracks if you wanted to send them my way. And Apocalyptica with no lyrics is different from gs!ybe with no lyrics, because it's strings music, and I love Strings music (not to say I don't like gs!ybe, mind). In fact, have you heard Avenged Sevenfold? I like them almost exclusively because they do some amazing things on the guitar.
