A Darker Shade Of Pale

It never fails. Just as I'm clearing my bed off to get to sleep, and re-arranging the obstacle course around my desk for the night (so as I'm sure to have lost all important papers before morning), there's a tentative knock at the door, and a red-eyed Rose steps in, asking if we could talk.

Rose had been going out with Trevor this year. I say 'had been' because, tonight, he dumped her. She had gone up to his room soon after returning from room selection, and they had had a reasonably 'normal' night 9though, apparently, he's been mentioning a possible break-up fot a little while now). As the night was ending, he said that they should talk - because he thought they should break up. True to form for recent break-ups, he gave the line that 'he didn't know why he'd started going out with her' - not that he was mad with her or anything, but that he'd lost 'that feeling' and such.

Rose came to me a few hours later, just to let me know what'd happened, and I think cause she needed someone to talk to - just to tell someone. I offered her mocha and she accepted (that jacket to Michaela, if you will) and then we sat, and talked, and in the end I think she felt better about it.

This, generally, is what I hope I'm not setting myself up for with Claire. I really like the girl, and I really think I want it to work. But as I told another friend earlier, I'm rather paranoid about relationships, and I have this sinking suspicion that, eventually, I'm going to skrew it up, one way or another. I don't look for that to happen, and I hope I am only paranoid, but I'm sure I'll be a lucky man if I survive College and never have any girl-troubles.

Time will tell, I suppose.
