Cold Silence Has a Tendency to Atrophy Any Sense of Compassion

A good friend of mine recently got married. And you know, that's a good thing; in the end, I'd like to get married and start a family, and that's *almost* up there as my Supreme Good (helping people being my actual supreme goal, but you know). So, I'm generally happy for her.

The trouble is, he really doesn't like me. And frankly, I don't really like him. We have a little bit of history, and there's bad blood on both sides. I don't like some of how he treats her, and I really don't like how he tends to regulate my interaction with her -- I can barely ever talk with her, and I can certainly never see her. I definitely don't have intentions on the girl, but we're friends and I don't feel like we can often act as such, because of the animosity between me and him.

Like I said, I don't like some of how he treats her, or at least how I see he treats her. I'm a big advocate of the attitude that you can never understand a relationship unless you're on the inside; the inner workings of a relationship are often not what they seem to an outsider. Still, he seems really controlling, really insensitive to her, and just... rubs me the wrong way.

I don't know where I'm going with this... Just veting, I guess. In the end, I'd like to see her happy, and ideally I'd like to see her marriage work out in the end. So... yeah, I don't know.

you should hear the sort of relationship my aunt is in. good grief, he's such a control freak ... ::shakes head:: relationships like that are really rather sad. they make me sad, at any rate. i really hope things work out okay, for your friend. ::hug::

yeah, it almost seems like my sister is in one of those. Not really the saem type of situation, but it's one of those "you need to come home at 8 so you can put the kid to bed so i don't have to" kind of guys, and pretty much every time i'm near them, it always seems like he's talking down to her, he has a tone of voice that says "geez woman, even you should understand this simple fact, let me explain it again in a slower voice so you might understand."
Since it's my sister, i have that whole protective thing, so yeah, pretty much whenever i'm near the two of them together, i want to smack him.

well, we all know guys are jerks, so it's expected that they all act like that. err... except you, of course...
