I don't know if you like comic books at all, but if you do you should read Fables. The whole twisted fairytale thing is really awesome. I haven't seen Shrek 3 so I don't know if Snow White is kickass, but in Fables she totally rocks. There's one scene where she's commanding troops and is like "I'm Snow White, you idiots. I'm never outgunned." and proceeds to own. Fables is way dark, but they do some really inventive stuff with fairy tale characters.
