It starts November 1st. I'm not sure I understand the question, "is it fiction only?" Do you want to write a textbook?

Well, strictly speaking, I'm not sure a thesis paper 'counts' as a novel, but... They do say that if you think what you're writing is a novel, then they think it's a novel. At the same time, the idea of NaNoWriMo is supposed to be 'exuberant imperfection', and I'm not really sure that's the kind of thing you'd want to apply to your thesis.

But I don't think anyone is going to *stop* you.
